Has anyone ever cheaped out and bought Duralast wiper blades from autozone and had them fly off when driving?? I have!!
It's painful. They are checkout line robots with no insight. The days of the true parts store connection people are almost gone. The old guard is being replaced. We really need to come to the realization that we need to do our research and go with all the part information for them. Otherwise, they will continue to ask you if it has A/C and a rear defroster option when you want an oil filter.
NAPA sells WIX filter (NAPA Gold) They are excellent filters. Unless you really need AC - Delco for originality.
Absolutely! I do it for self preservation. If not my blood pressure skyrockets when they get that look of sheer bewilderment on their face after I tell them the year make and model.
Pulled into ARCO gas station in 1995 to purchase the outgoing leaded gas for .99 a gallon in the 1969 GS 400. A guy older than my father says he had one with a 455 dual quads factory. In my youth I already knew 1 of 2 things in this moment.... he had a bad memory or he was confusing a 425 dual setup to my 69. My response was... no you didn't.. he argued...I shrugged and drove off. Meh
I was waiting outside for someone at a doctors office smoking cigg and got into a conversation with another car guy and I brought up the Buick Stage 1 and Stage 2 program.. This other guy maby in his 40's or 50's with slicked back receding hair wearing a red velour jogging suit and bright white sneakers with red laces that had previously bummed a couple cigg's from me had been listening and all of the sudden seriously say's.... "I had a Buick Stage 3 with triple deuces" Why must some people open their mouth and really think we will believe them??
I haven't used Mobil 1 on or in my GS. I've been using the NAPA Gold filter for 16 years. If you're looking at buying a Mobil 1 filter whatever you do don't buy it from China-Mart. They get their own grade (sh*t grade) of whatever they sell. As far as Oil, I use Penn Grade (used to be called Brad Penn) partial synthetic 15W 40. It has a high zinc content.
I’ve read that Home Depot had enough buying power to demand Shlage locks be built to cheaper specs but look the same, and I swear Wallyworld gets the fattier slabs of Black Label bacon. Their Sargento cheese is crumblier and drier tgan the same packs from Kroger, too. Patrick
I was on a Hot Rod Tour a few years ago. A fellow participant walked past my car and commented to his buddy (loud enough for me to clearly hear), "It's only a Stage 1, too bad it wasn't a Stage 3." He's not even smart enough to realize that his put-down of my car actually proves his membership in Club Moron.
HA! Was at my first show after going to the Corvette and a young man asked me what the car was. I told him a 1966 Corvette, and he flat out told me Chevy NEVER made a car that looked like mine and it was a complete fake. I guess the other 3 C2 cars at the show that day were also fakes, but never asked him. I agreed, and he left, thankfully. Like someone said, life is too short. As many here have noted, my many GS cars were almost always complemented as being, "Identical to the Chevy/Pontiac/Oldsmobile that they owned back in the day." I usually said thank-you and let them go on their merry way...its a hobby, not a classroom. Cheers, Richard
Ford 332 series engines had front mount distrubtors too. 332 you really mean a 352 right or maybe a 390, a truck OH a 360. get that all the time. Problem today is most all the auto parts stores you go to from Advanced auto to Napa are all computer run sales counters and those behind the counters for the most part are high school drop outs or just barly squeeked thru high school and are trained to use those computers. Those computers are programed by non car people, they are just computer geeks and have not put in things like cross referencing parts from one comapny to another like the brake bleeder screws common to most all MFG's. Every once in a while you run into some old retired dude with a part time job in a auto parts store who knows you don't need to ask the dumb questions like what tranny, what gear ratio and AC or non AC or 4x4 or 2x4 when buying a oil filter, or air filter. Have pity and answer the questions when you are asking about front brake pads for a 1985 Buick LeSabre coupe, gets you in and out with a lot less pain. Had a guy tell me once at a car show that the 307 Old's engine was a dog. Yup sure is but I enjoy the dog going down the road at 70 MPH cruise set and the AC keeping me cool. If I didn't like the dog I would have gotten some thing with a AC delete plate biggest hopped up double turbo set up I could find to wear ear plugs while trying to maintain 70 MPH down the free way. I also second looking up the part at home and writeing down the part number or printing it out. Al
