No doubt. Adam knows all about 'restored' cars. He has straightened out several of mine that were "restored".
I recall Henry saying the cost of the restoration was staggering. Sad to pay out all that money only to get a car that needs straightening out but sadly this has been said many times about many "restored" cars.
The Buick community (especially the ones having these cars fully restored) is so small and tight. You'd think that would be financial suicide for a shop to send out restorations that need to be corrected.
https://www.mecum.com/lots/CH1013-167138/1970-buick-gs-stage-1/ Previously no sale at 40. What’s fair here ?
When was the prev. no-sale? $40k to me seems extremely low. Mine (#'s Stage 1 4-sp, Sherwood/Pearl White buckets/green top) isn't nearly as nice & I wouldn't take that for it.
correct previous Mecum no sale at 40. it's 106 at the dealer now. https://www.silverstonemotorcars.com/vehicles/788/1970-buick-gs455-stage-1-4-speed
To answer your orig. question, $106k isn't unreasonable. How many #'s matching '70 S1 4-sp.'s are out there and this case rare does = valuable. That said, to me, the interior color change & going to a diff. color vinyl top from a painted top would be the deal killer if I was going to spend that kind of $ & wouldn't matter if was changed at the dealership pre-delivey to the 1st owner. I'd discount it by at keast wjatever it cost (plus time) to make it correct - $10k?
