https://www.estatesales.net/FL/Debary/32713/3317580 Well boys, here it is, the car I checked out a few months ago.
I thought about going, but there is too much going on later this week and weekend. It's 4-hours round trip from where I'm at.
I was scouring every piece of this car, top to bottom. The sellers want $55,000. It cost $100,000 to restore this car. The absolute best example of one of these has only sold for 87,000. You do the math.
I know for a fact that there has been a $20,000 plus offer on this car already. Auction company refused to acknowledge.
Auction company is clueless about this car. The rims that they claim are original are not. They are 15 inch WG offset wheels. The carburetor although it has the proper date code, is A non-stage one carburetor. Everything else is intact as far as I could tell.
This car has rot in the quarter panels and fenders. It will need a complete restoration to make it right.
That is a lot of rubbish. I mean stuff. The car, I really don't see? I only see the one photo with the car (mismatched hood)?
I think 55 is a lot for a car needing a complete tear down, especially with the missing components you mentioned. I'd guess the auction bears that out in the end. The truth is probably somewhere between 20 and 55. A few pictures would be nice too, given its probably one of the bigger ticket items there. I think you're selling restored 72 Stage convertibles short though One just went through BAT at 131k. I get its BAT, and I get that one had a 4 speed. But that doesn't explain away the entire difference between your take on them and the result of that auction. I think that it's kind of hard to judge something that doesn't sell very often since there were only 81 of them ever.
$55k ain't happening worst advertisement I've ever seen for a car..At least pull the dam thing out the garage.$20K may rope in some buyers...not me I bid 10k with all the abundance of info known.
It’s not exactly a fair comparison, but I went to an ‘estate sale’ a few years ago. It was clear the heirs had contacted a conpany that advertises they handle this kind of thing-also clear they were winging it. There was a ‘76 Electra; it ran and drove well but had a crappy repaint over some horrible bondo all mudded up on one quarter. They were asking $10k so I wasn’t even going to make an offer. He persisted and I offered $1000. I was actually worried he was going to call me later. The whole sale was a cluster of crap with googlehigh price tags. Patrick
Yes, that's the car. They do have new quarters, floor pan and trunk pan plus new bumpers. I agree that it will take $100K to restore it especially in this market. I'm still gonna take a look at it tomorrow as I have a buyer that I may be able to flip it to for a small brokerage fee. He offered me $3k for my trouble and opinions and is looking for a long term project which this looks to be. I'll get back.
The 1/4 panels are for a hard top. Looks to be about accurate miles. I don't think the odo is rolled over. Has a rough n-25 on it.
I may go wait thru 6 hours of bidding for a shot at the comet and shaving creme,..can probably get the whole lot there for $50!,...... I hate auctions with a passion ha,..selling landfill stuffing for twice its value
Anyone know the original color combination for this car? paint, top, and interior? Although it's obviously a fairly rough project car, it's still 1 of 81 '72 Stage 1 convertibles built and I sure hope that the car is finally saved and appreciated. hugger I also had my eyes on the comet, so you aren't getting it without a bidding war! I'm also interested in that lifetime supply of Irish Spring bar soap so don't even consider it. Good luck and may the best man win. I'm reposting the photos that GSXER put in the other thread about this car since they are better than what is shown in the auction listing. Thanks GSXER, I'm not surprised that you already knew about this one. Fair price for a ‘72 Stage 1 convertible. | V8buick.com
Thanks GSXER for posting the trim tag. If the 25 Zone Office cars (Flame Orange/white top) are pulled out of the total of 81 cars made, the red paint/white top combination is the most common with a whooping eight (8) made. Hopefully it gets the restoration it needs. This car would sure be sharp with fresh red paint, white top, and white bench seat interior. GS
