Today I decided I would call various machine shops in the SLC area and see about getting my 455 block sonic tested. I was surprised that after about 10 or more phone calls I didn't find a shop that does this. One said they used to farm it out to a guy that would come by and provide that service but that was many years ago. He said he hasn't even been asked about sonic testing for years and years. I didn't expect this would be hard to find? Is this an operation that has mostly gone away?
Call any of these? https://www.google.com/search?clien...ne+block+sonic+testing+in+Salt+lake+City+Utah I would ask about machine shops familiar with Buick engines in the SLC area. Ask in the Bench Forum.
I've dealt with many machine shops. The consensus seems to be there is a small ROI. 99% of customers don't care or don't know enough to have a block checked.
Sonic testing is not unique to Buicks.. common for many other makes. Even the popular ones.. Any shop without that capability is a shop to avoid. JW
Yes I did. many of them. Part of the problem was any Sonic drive in also showed up in the search. And any description of shop location being across from the Sonic.
IMHO a shop that does not spend the money for a sonic testing tool... Would more likely spends it money on sunglasses rather than shop maintenance... In other words the equipment they got is JUNK...
Might be worth contacting TA performance in Arizona. Mike might have a recommendation. http://taperformance.com/contact.htm
True. I expanded my search and a machine shop in Vegas and one in Meridian, ID show up as advertising sonic testing. Vegas would be closer by a far bit.
JW, the man behind this website and a big part of this community does it. Might show some love and send it to him. https://www.crankshaftgrindersut.com/pricing
