Huh.....I don't know? It was all factory paint and untouched, (other than being all beat to hell! LOL) I would imagine that it came that way. Anyway, all trim and script is coming off and staying off. Window edge trim, roof/gutter trim and rocker moldings are about all that's going back on.
I bought and owned this in the very early 90's ......the 1st wife got it in our divorce in 1993. I really liked the car. I bought it from the original owner. 1971 with Blue with white power bucket seat interior. It was a 350 2 barrel car but had allot of options. The quick story was my Dad had called me and my gran parents had called him. They wanted me to go look at a lesabre that was for sale.....I said that car is too big and I don't even want to see it. For about 3 weeks my dad had called and and said just please go and see it. I guess it was a family friend's car. I took a drive to the Southside of Chicago.....i didn't see a lesabre but there was a blue Skylark it was sitting on California Ave with a for sale sign in it......... I went home and called the number.....it was the car. Not a lesabre.....a skylark. It was the owners son.....the woman was elderly and the kid's thought it was in her best interest to sell the car. I bought it for $450......I seen the elderly lady in her window as I was about to drive off. She was in tears. I put those wheels on it.... It had the original hub caps on the car when I bought it. It had some dents dings and some rust. The x-wife sold it in the Nashville TN area for $250 in 1993 or early 94.
Also, Corvette L-88 side pipes. Just a phase I went through. Went back to conventional dual exhaust, but with mechanical cut-out (dump) valves installed close to the Hooker header collector reducers. Nando.
Steve, I think that you should leave all the chrome on the car. Then when you decide to sell I would be a buyer. That is a major difference between the Skylark and Chevelle....Chrome, it really is a Buick thing. Just polish the side moldings leaving the grey paint off. The couple that bought my Skylark had several Chevelle's and liked the Buick style more. Just adding my opinion.
While the Skylarks have the unique trim, I'm opting for that clean look. Part of what I'm going for as an overall appearance. I'm not too concerned about resale........good or bad, as I know from experience..... invest $100K and get back "maybe" $30-$40 if your lucky!! LOL When I build a car like this I always have a specific look that I go after and that look is ingrained in my head. I hate it when I deviate from that first envisioning that I have. It takes a lot to make changes once this happens!! LOL!!
