Our '69 isn't named, though I usually refer to it as the 'lark. It's also been called the 'toy/hobby car/ money pit'
i own a 1970 skylark been in my family sence 1971 my grand pa owned it drove it as his daily driver until passed away in 2008 i inherted her the panty dropper
I call mine the X-CAMINO because parts of it were from an El-Camino and it is painted up like a GSX..................and yes the car/truck knows it's name. Duane
Fast forward since I started this thread. I sold the 4 speed ragtop “Whiplash” back in 2013 and acquired the current ride 70 Skylark and created the “Street Sleeper”. The name was more fitting before the Stage 2 scoop in the hood for sure. It was destined to have a hole in the hood as at one point the dual quad set up was going on it but when the two inch carb spacer demonstrated an additional 25 ft/lbs and HP on the dyno, it was a done deal. I don’t envision ever owning another BUICK so as long as I own the Street Sleeper that’s the name.
I wish I hadn’t parted ways with my Bapmobile. (68 BUICKAMINO) If you have a pic why don't you put it up here. Duane
The Cadillac is a real original "Caddy". The F100 is "Beater", "Effy", or "Racetruck". The Riviera is also real original "Riv", "Rivi", or "Black car". The F250 is "Candycane". The Mach 1 is "Whiplash", "Mach", "The good car", or "My car". If I say we're taking my car, everyone knows it's the Mustang. And they all get called some version of "b****" with a few adjectives at different points....(I have pretty diverse taste if you can't tell )
Green cars name came about when I was talking to Taulb one day near the beginning of the resto. I had owned the car for about 14 years to that point, and though some folks tried, a nickname never stuck. In conversating with Taulb, I off the cuff referred to it as a "rusty hulk of metal". Taulb said "hey, that'd be a good nickname" and thus, the "Rusty Hulk" moniker was born. Though its often just called "Rusty" as a reference to its prior condition. (which confuses people that see it and don't see any rust. haha) The white car was named by the wife. When we bought it, she called it "a princess" and since its white and the movie Frozen was popular at the time, it became known as "Elsa" after the disney princess character. I only later found out from the previous owners wife they called it "Snowbird" since it was owned prior to them by a gentleman who retreated to Arizona during Ohio winters, and that probably would've stuck had I known that when I bought it. But it was already renamed Elsa, so that stuck. But in recent months, the green car has been moreso referred to as "P.O.S." among many other derogatory terms I can't type out here.....
Yeah it has a name - we call it the "the Buick". Like which car are we gonna take to the show - "the Buick". And the other one is "the Chevy", and the other one is "the Hudson".
70 gs 455 vert- the pumpkin. 72 suncoupe- Frankenstein - heritage green and built from a whole lot of donor car parts. 87 Gn- black car, silverado HD -big bertha. Wives trailblazer - snow white. My trailblazer- ole blue. When any of them misbehave they are called the usual assortment of colorful Nick names. - junk pile, rust bucket, cranky bitch, pos, sob, Mr. Etc.
64 Skylark with 535 Tomahawk and F1R ProCharger, known as "ALPH LARK". Just thought it was kinda unique and it stuck...…..Completion date...….? Maybe 1 to 1-1/2 years??
I felt Lord Vader was fitting as it's all black. Plus, I wanted to be an outlier & not give the car a female name.
1964 Skylark Convertible. "1964-Buick-Skylark-Pervertible-GS-Prototype-Wannabe™" Because, it is what I think what the "GS" would have been in 1964. 2x4 Nailhead (dual FiTech and EELCO EB24 going in within the next few weeks, once I get put in hard fuel lines) BW wide ratio, Strange S60 3.54 S-Trac, Complete UMI suspension, Wilwood all around and just added Gear Vendors OD. I have a fondness for the 1964 A body, the nailhead, "lots of floor pedals" and shifty thingies (got that from my Dad and Uncle.) 1968 Skylark. "Bad Buick" Cuz the "Star Wars" air cleaner reminds me more of the "Bad Robot" than anything "Star Wars". And once I got the air cleaner, I figured, I needed a proper BBB engine to "hold the air cleaner up". That led me to the current build for this car, so it can live up to the name. 430 (440 CI) TA Stage 2 heads, 413 roller cam/lifters/rockers. zero deck 10:1 TRW forged slugs, proper oil mods, added rear oil pressure to the right rear gallery, TA timing cover/pump. FiTech EFI, ST400 Switch Pitch, with ST300 converter, 8.5 with Yukon 3.42 from JD Race. (putting the engine together "Tab A into Slot B" and hope to have the car up and running in April).
