... Ahh, the near death experience that keeps on giving I still say, post incident, Bruce should have marketed a set of wheel chocks with his mug silk screened on it with the motto "Don't do The Bruce !! Chock it, don't Block It" - I bet he and Ron Popeil could have sold a million of them to the racers
That was a lay up.. Lol Give em hell Doug.. I'll need my power plant I just picked up my car tonight..
Well friends, I had a pretty successful first day out with the Tomahawk 560". First pass was off the foot brake and off idle. It went a best ever 1.20 60 foot and an 8.73 at 155 mph! Just awesome!! That's half a tenth better in 60 foot, a tenth better in ET, and 3mph up top. Hit the (lowered) wheelie bars with a nice two foot wheelie, short shifted it at 6400, and crossed at 7500. Second pass I brake torqued it a little, to maybe 2000, and it didn't leave as well. 1.22 60 foot with six inches of wheelstand, shifted at 6600, went 8.78 at 154.03. Third pass I transbraked it at 4200, it tried to go skyward, I lifted my foot and as it started dropping I blipped the throttle on the way down to accelerate it out a bit so it wouldn't hit too hard. That move was successful and I coasted down to the end, got out and looked at the headers and they're perfect. Whew!:beer Now I gotta: 1) Straighten out the 4-link to keep it from hooking right. 2) Lengthen the upper bars on the wheelie bars so they'll go lower. 8 inches off the ground is as low as they go. Need to go lower to keep this beast earthbound. 3) Take the 4.56s out and put the 4.10s back in. This motor doesn't need this much gear. It's sick. In a good way. PS - When I stood it straight up two years ago, it had 4.10s in it so I don't think it'll hurt the launch a bit.
You're dealing with about 80lbs less on the nose. Hopefully you can find a happy spot where it will even dip into the 1-teens.
That's great Doug. Adding years to your life days to your racing career. I guess I haven't seen you in a while.
that great Doug - Congrats :beer So what are you thinking with a good launch off the trans brake and wheelie bars lowered ?
I'm guessing it'll run what I hoped for....8.50 at 160. I need to see if Rob Chilenski will cut my upper wheelie bars and tig weld in some sections of solid chromemoly tubing to make those bars longer. It's that or take mine to a chassis shop and tell them to either make these bars "X" number of inches longer or fabricate two new ones that length.
and what if its in the 8.40-30's ? then you'll be telling the chassis shop a whole bunch more Don't worry though, a wise man once said "Its only money - I can make more"
Congrats on the numbers, saw your passes on facebook, looked good. Nice job, keeping that car away from slamming the ground on the 3rd pass. Now lower those wheelie bars, because I want to see that beast scream all the way down the track in Norwalk :3gears:
