Thanks, that's exactly what I was hoping for. I will check tonight when I get home but the example in the photos looks the same as what's on my car to me.
Keep in mind, no where in the Stage2 program does it list the use of the Quadrajet, Thermoquad, nor Holley 950 3 barrel. It list the use of the B4B with 4781 Holley 850cfm.
I don't remember doing any modifications to the TA shorty headers on my iron stage 2 heads. Maybe TA made some changes.o No: Bob H.
Correct, the TA headers will fit the later production iron Stage2's, but the TA flanges will interfere with the early (prototype) vertical boss heads. Where the Kustom brand would bolt right up. I saw your heads when you were selling them and they were the later style if I remember...make sense?:TU:
So, this is what you're doing in your office while I'm at the counter helping customers; browsing V8Buick and talking about parts that your employees can't afford. (glad I could help out by the way :TU
Pretty much! And in between that inch and a half of paper with nothing but part numbers deciding what to stock and what to send back! Thanks for the help though...I gotter done!
I am very envious of the resources you guys in the States have such easy access to. There are only 6 or 8 '70 Stage 1's here in Australia and 1 only GSX (mine). I have never seen more than one at a time. You thought the Stage 1 was under appreciated in the USA, over here very few people have any idea what one is. ( I am doing my best to fix that but it's a big task :Smarty This site has been supremely helpful, there is only so much you can learn from books and the web without asking direct questions. The fact that you have access to the guys who worked on the GS development program is particularly amazing.
Not me! But your question brings up a couple other good questions. Of the people that already have a set, what would you have to get if you were to sell? And of the people that desire a set, what would you be willing to give? Bump!
I now have a couple hundred miles on my Stage 2 engine. It's such a well behaved and great running engine with very good street manners. It idles nicely and runs smoothly and has power that is hard to leave alone on an open stretch of road. Really enjoying this setup and kudos to JW for doing such a fine job building this engine! Heading to Cars & Coffe this morning in Folsom with my 2 boys (8 & 11). They enjoy this car as much as I do...
I bought several sets of heads and two '70 blocks from a gentleman in the Detroit area along with several Pontiac 455s, 400s, and multiple sets of Pontiac heads. He mentioned having a set of Stage II heads and I asked if he was interested in selling them. He said he would get back to me with a price but never did.
About 20 feet away from my experimental block under the one good light and dry area of his shop the gentleman I bought my block from had a beautiful rebuilt 455 sporting a set of iron Stage II heads. I actually saw that before finding the X block silently rusting away under the leaking roof and a dim flickering fluorescent light. I asked him about the heads but he said that set was sold with the rebuild. I then asked him what he sold Stage II heads for and he said "Those? Oh! I get $300 a set for the Stage II's but that is my last set." The experimental block soon eased my pain on missing out on the heads though ha ha
No one ever asked...or at least I never saw it posted, but what was (hopefully is) the original owner of that 4-bolt block's name???
Would anyone know when the production Stg2 heads were actually made available to the general public? I will have to go back and look at some of my paperwork that lists' the complete components of the later '70's pieces, (don't have that with me here) but that still doesn't give me a time frame of when the dealer could actually order and receive the heads.
You could ask Gary Paine, he bought a 1969 Stage 1 4 speed in 69 and ordered the Stage 2 package right away.
