A friend may buy a '70 Stage 1 4-speed with bench seat. I have the GS book (from Mike Trommeter?) with all the numbers, but it doesn't have this permutation. I was curious if it's possible to find this out from the Sloan Museum, or it's beyond their abilities based on how the numbers were tabulated?
Base interior or deluxe? I know there are numbers out there for Gran Sport's with the base interior. But I don't think it's separated down to how many with bench seats. But I know they are rare, really rare in a Stage 1
BTW..... The car has about 10,000 ORIGINAL miles. I believe it has deluxe interior but not positive on that point. Also, original Polyglas tires. Might have to get a better tire to hold this down.
Using Mike's numbers about the closest you'll come is the Stage 1, 4sp, AC numbers, which as I recall is less than 200 units regardless of other options. Once you add other option combos into the mix it's clear the numbers drop off significantly from there.
Diego, please update this thread when, or if you get any answers. I've got a '70 stage 1 4-speed with a bench seat and NO air. I'm curious as to what you're going to find out.
i also have a 70 stage1 ,bench seat, base interior.i have a magazine that has the same car in it.i'll have to dig it out.it was from the early 80's that said there was only 42-48? of these cars.don't no wear the stats came from back then but?? would slaon have this info??
If it's from the 1980s, I'm guessing someone pulled numbers out of their butt. I am gonna guess it's the turquoise/white Basketball Sam car, right?
dug out the mag.it is musclecars jan.1994.canfield ohio's william bartels is the owner.7o stage1,red,black interior, split bench with armrest.they quote reliable sources at 48 with this option.take it for what it's wirth..it also has tom rix's 2 70 gs's in it.o No:
I also had an early 70 Stage 1 4-speed with the base interior. It was Diplomat blue with a std Blue front bench. Duane
Duane, That must mean there were at least one other car like mine. Unless you owned my car years ago! :beer Jim
Jim, I don't know. I sold my car to a guy from Fort Dodge Iowa, after that I lost track. It had the 16" blue rallye wheel. (Took years to find the replacement for it.) At the time I had twinkies. Both were 70 Diplomat blue Stage 1 4-speeds, but the other had the Pearl White deluxe bucket seat interior. Duane
Thanks for the ongoing information. I am enthused to find out that my soon to be bought car is more rare than I thought. Any further info would be appreciated. Any ideas as to the appraisal values of this kind of car?? I have been told it could be around $70,000.
Condition might be a big factor . You never mentioned it. There's a big difference between appraised value and real world value. 70k seems like a good number to tell the insurance company. But in real world value, for 70k, the car better be damn near concours.
The car in question has about 10,000 miles ( original) on it and has been stored inside for the last 20 years at least. Controlled indoor storage and maintained. ou:
