just wanted to let you who are looking for ZDDP that Oreily's auto parts now has it on the shelf on the oil isle. can't remember the price but it was under $10.:bglasses:
you have to remember though...when adding zddp to other off the self oils typical have calcium in the detergents which counteract which each other...both substances do the opposite job from one another.. Amsoil just came out with an oil for us muslcecar guy called zrod oil..has the zddp needed along with rust prohibitors packaged into the synthetic oil summit sells reg oil bundled with zddp ..link is somewhere on here if you want dino oil..
I spoke to the rep at Lucas and they make a engine break in additive with zinc. The rep told me that I can use that in place of ZDDP to add the required zinc.
Some of the single grades don't have all the detergents. I think I remember that Mobil1 30 did not have detergent. I have used Texaco Havoline for years. But, lately; Havoline has been hard to come by. I need to find out, before; I change the oil. June, is marked for the Roadmaster's next oil change.
It seems like something as simple as changing our oil these days has become a lesson in chemistry and metallurgy. What ever happened to simply pullign the plug till it was empty and fillign her back up? So ZDDP is a go, but not with Calcium. Stay away from synthetcs, but only they have the detergents you want. Add to the confusion that once you find an oil that suits your needs, it's likely only around for the next 6 months before being discontinued. Who would have thought that a bunch of dead dinosaurs could be such a pain in the :moonu: .
yea amsoil also has strait 30 weight break-in oil now too..which shouldnt have any detergents except the needed zinch/phosphurous. zpaste is about the best thing for new cam installs(zddp product) ps.. no need to stay away from synthetics unless you know youre gaskets are bad and dont want to replace them..and obviously you cant ffind one without calcium
