Go to Walmart and get the STP oil treatment. It has the highest amount of it than any other product. I use it in my CAT engine and I get around 800,000 miles before needed a rebuild.

Rob, do you have the zinc & phos content on the STP so we can compare to the other additives?

Is the CAT a flat tappet cam engine or a roller?

    Devon,

I don't have any info on the amounts that are in the product, I'm just going by what it says on the bottle itself. I'm sure if you got STP's number off their website, they could give you that information.

When I was with some of the Ramchargers last month they told me a great STP story. They advised the Plymouth Commandos, Dick Landy, etc. not to use STP. If someone had one of their engines and it was off the pace they would always ask them if they used STP. Back in the 60s STP went around to many races and offerred $500, a lot of money then, to the winner of a race but only if they used STP in which case they got a special STP sticker to go on your car. So the STP guy comes by and offers them the $500.00 deal. Mike Buckel says "So you say all we have to do is to use it in our engine and win, right?" And the STP guy says "That's all you have to do". So Buckel takes the can of STP, opens it, and pours it in the Candymatic's radiator right it front of the STP guy who protests a bit but finally moves on. The Ramchargers mowed down the field and took home STP's 500.00 with STP only in their cooling system. :bla:

I think the STP of today is different from the STP of yesteryear. I still don't know if it is any good. Never used it on a regular basis always thought it was smoke and mirrors. Peace, Mike D.

The cam in the CAT engine is flat-tappet, I believe. I will have to talk to my CAT mechanic to see for sure. It's a 1988 model so, I wouldn't think it would have a roller setup.
