I went to the Midnight at the Oasis run in Yuma this past weekend. I try and go every year. If any of you are within driving distance you should try and make it next year. Great cars, great weather. Here are a couple of Buicks that were there
I hate it when the put the bonnets up, typical N-American meeting habbit ? It ruins the shape of the cars, all the lines and curves are gone. Maybe you should have moved the chairs onthe first photo a little bit backwards, now they're taking up a huge space in the photo. Or walk up to the car you want to take a photo from, your digital screen will give you a pretty close idea of what the borders of the photo will be. Imagine this image without the chair and the man behind it. I already removed the little shadow from a head in front of the car: The second photo is taken from the shadow side of the car, always check the position of the sun and make sure your own shadow isn't in the photo. And next time wait a few seconds longer until people are out of the picture. Just a few tips to make even better photos :TU: It looks like it was a great day out there, sunny weather and beautiful cars :bglasses: How many cars were there, and how many Buicks ?
Hi Erik - By mentioning the term 'bonnet' I'll guess you mean hood? If that's true, than yes, it is a custom to attend a car show/cruise and lift your 'bonnet' while parked. If the 'bonnet' is not the hood, what is a 'bonnet'?
A hood is a convertible top (what do you call Little Red Riding Hood or Robin Hood in N-America ?) I remember the discussion on this board about the advertisement for a scale model Buick: It was made in China and it said: "Power hood" . Quite a few American board members were amused
so if I am understanding you... What you call a hood is what we call a convertible top? What you call a bonnet is what we call a hood (the 'hindged sheet metal' that covers the motor)?
American English hood / British English bonnet American English trunk / British English boot American English truck / British English lorry Click here for more information :Comp: Btw: Did you catch the question about this 1969 GS400 being a true Stage1 car or not ? It's in the "Wet behind the ears" section :TU:
:beer :beer :beer Thanks Erik. So yes, it's very common to lift our bonnets while parked. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=26765 I'll check out the "Wet behind the ears" section
Thanks for the tips. Next time I'll check my light meter and ask the folks to move their chairs. :TU: Seriously, I took these for my own use and just thought you guys might want to see them ou: As for the hoods. Many shows want you to open the hoods for judging. My Merc is flamed so I wont do it. If the judges ask, I will open the hood and give 'em a look. It ruins the lines of the cars to open the hood.
When did they replace the sand in Yuma with Grass and trees? What a waste of Arizona water. The last time I was in Arizona I had to beg for water in food establishments wherever we went.
The show is held at a full size baseball field. I was told some major team uses it for winter play. I dont follow baseball so I really dont know. The venue is great and the food outstanding. Two full meals with Tri-tip and one of bar-b-que chicken. 3 day show, 3 meals and great weather for $75 for 2 people. They also have 2 concerts They lay it out very well. The spaces are large enough that my buddy and I parked on the outside edges of each of our spaces and had room between the cars for our easy ups, tables and chairs. :TU:
Erik, You see here in the USA its all about the ENGINE!!!!! Yes the sheet metal is nice too......but its still all about the engine! We drive around in behemoths that have way too much power, drink way too much gas, and are way too loud, and we love every second of it!!!! We open the "bonnet" to show off the engine!!
