I've finally completed my monstocity of terror!!
My 1983 chevy chevette is the baddest mofo around..
Based off of the opel Kadette platform , Cheveorlet couldn't have built a finer piece of automotive engineering. Concidered one of the most feared and aggresive econo-boxes on the streets. It sure can make a crowd of 15 year old girls congregate faster than a swarm of flies at a sugarmill. The beefy 80 horse power 1.8 litre squarehead 4 cyl is a dream come true. The ominous whirl of the plastic valve train is like a symphony of angels heralding their harks..
The close ratio sterring is like navigating the 7 seas with most minimal of efforts for even the weakest of "teatime" pinkys. & The short throw shifter and rally sprt wheel make the car even more nimble than its supposed to be.. One of the few major drawbacks to this speed demon other than the wind dragging luggage rack is the traditional style emergency brake pedal..
It almost makes it a suicidal event trying those brake assisted batman turns on rainy evenings. :af:
This overpowerd opel chassis is a delight to drive and most defintely brawny enough to pick the silliest of fights with any bigblock out there..(especially those prius owners) :Brow:
Be envious for this formiddable creature will overwhelm you psychologically unlike any other super sporty- musclecar- rice- cooking- avenger could ever assertain.http: www.bilnorge.no/export/bb_497.jpeg :moonu: :moonu: :moonu:

I commend you for taking on this challenge. :Smarty: I, myself, have been taking on a second challenge of the Yugo-screw-ya-self mobile. I traded in my 2,500 HP lawnmower for a more economical, practical, and not to mention, extra fast Yugo GT. This is the real deal right here folks, it doesn't get any more realistic than this.....The true "yugo screw-ya-self mobile". It's very intimidating with it's sinister like paint job, and window tint job, made to intimidate the Grand Nationals of course. It's got the hatch on it, so it's very intimadating to the honda civic hatch-back owners, they drool over this fine-dine-wine of a car. :TU: I have never lost once, on the street, strip, and track. It's packing a true 1.3 litre euro-sport packaged inline 4 cylinder, w/ a 250 shot of nitrous. The engine has never been rebuilt, and it's got 198 thousand miles and still going strong. I cut a lot of the metal out and rust areas and applied some lightweight fiberglass patching, so it's even more lightweight now than it was when I first purchased it. :Smarty: The motor made around 65 Brake Horsepower and probably 30 or so to the rear wheels, but that 250 shot of Nitrous express really makes this thing a terrorist on wheels, to any import. The new mustang GT's and later model Camaro's seem to beat it, but I have never lost to a Honda Shitvic yet, and not to mention those Lamborghinis. When those things come up to me at the street light, they give me one look and think they have the hottest car on 4 wheels, untill I get out of the car, and do the quick 2 minute install of jet-packs on the hatch, and when I do that, I get back in the car and get ready for the light to turn green, and I am instantly up to 300 MPH without any problems, and I wait for an hour at the next couple of lights down for the lambo owners to catch up. I am planning on installing some plastic coated headers, hilborn fuel injection stacks, 100 Horsepower Folgers coffee can muffler(home-made of course), and some slicks. This thing is a beast, I shall keep everyone updated on how things work out.

my first car was a chevette. if you pull the e brake while driving at 35 mph in the rain you can spin them around, in the same lane, and keep driving. you can also use the cigarette lighter to set things on fire and throw them at your friends cars. off roading is not a good idea, unless you are chasing people around a house, ( although a dodge omni glh is far better, the glh is much faster and can get air off of snow banks.)

I dated a girl who had a chevette. God what an awful car. She wouldn't fill the tank to full because it would kill what little acceleration the car could muster.

She put snow tires on the front because she thought it was a front wheel drive car.

She thought she had locked the keys in the car so I got a coat hanger. She found the keys as we were walking back so we decided to see who would get in quicker. I won. I slipped the coat hanger in and it hit something that unlocked it. Her door required jiggling the key to get it open. I coiled the coat hanger behind the rear bumper so she would have it if the lock gave out.

I had driver's ed in an Omni (or was it an Horizon?). Going down a valley road with 4 people in it in a 35 mph zone, I floored it.
Barely crested the top of the other hill.

The Chevettes lost weight so fast by rusting that it made women jealous. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they bought them.

I'm embarrassed to say that my parents bought a new 1979 Chevy Chuvitt. It was a 4-door hatchback with one option...a rear window defogger. I had to install a FM converter to be able to listen to "my" music. Thankfully it went through clutches like I go through chewing gum. They got rid of it three years later.

My friends dad had a chevette behind their warehouse. We used to throw it around with the forklift. I thought it was one of the most god awful vehicles ever built.

In 1970 Buick makes the GSX, rated at 360 hp and 510 ft/lbs of torque(considerably underated), a plush&roomy interior, a firm, quiet&solid ride, body lines to die for, close to a flawless vehicle. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better and after 10 years of research and development GM unveils the new models for 1980, including the Chevette. The Chevette pretty much possesses traits opposite that of the GSX in every way. I'm not sure what was going on at GM during those years but they wonder why they have lost so much of their market share, I wonder?

I'm not too sure what any american car makers were thinking in the late 70s until the mid 90s. I think just about everything in between is godaweful.
