im with you on that one, my brother in law and his buddies always go to pa and stock up on it. i had it once and decided it wasnt for me. he will be glad to here he doesnt have to make that trip anymore.
I used to truck it home for the guys every time I was on leave from SC. I wouldn't even get a "hey bud glad you are coming back", its always "are you bringing yuengling back?" oooohhhhh sweet nectar I've missed you. Can't wait to have it on tap in my home state, I'm tired of having to drive out of state to get it... awesome..
My family (owned) has been in the beer distributing for 45yrs and had Yuengling was one our brands.. Its considered the oldest continuously family owned brewery in America.. I have heard some interesting stories from them and a few stories that stand out with two in particular was during prohibition era where they survived by making near-beer with .5% alcohol and also had a dairy where they made ice cream and other dairy products.. The day prohibition ended Yuengling had beer ready that same day and interesting it takes 14 to 35 days to brew Lager and Ale! Another story is that Yuengling has an eagle as trademark on there labeling,, so does the industry giant Anheuser-Busch, AB summoned Yuengling to court on copyright infringement for the eagle design.. A date was set and A-B had a group of lawyers in the court and in comes Dick Yuengling causally dressed with no lawyers with a envelope under his arm.. The proceeding starts and Mr Yuengling interrupts the courts and says that he wanted to save the courts time and tax payers money.. He then pulls out paperwork from the envelope and says here is my great great grandfathers trademark filings for the Eagle as a logo that was filed 10 years earlier before Anheuser-Busch did.. The judge looks it over and says to the AB side that you have a problem and as far as hes concerned Yuengling can make you put a squirrel as a logo and that they needed to work it out between each other, and from that day on AB pays Yuengling an undisclosed amount for the right to keep the eagle logo as a trademark.. A real life David and Goliath story.. Enjoy your brew!
It's popular beer here in Florida. The younger crowd picked up on it a few years ago and it has grown in popularity. My kids turned me on to it a while back and I found it to be a great beer. We had 20 cases of it at my daughter's wedding in March and the next morning it was gone! I'm lucky as my sister and brother-in-law own a liquor store, so I buy everything I need at wholesale cost. Don't want to hijack this thread, but we were in Tennessee last week and went to the Jack Daniel's Distillery. Had been there 20+ years ago, but it has changed quite a bit since then and they offer a great free tour. If anyone passes through that area, I would suggest stopping to see a great American story. They actually sell bottles there now as "commemmorative" items. Got me a bottle of Gentleman Jack.
I have 3 cans in the garage fridge, and 6 in the basement fridge. For emergencies. Every time I or the neighbor go home (to PA) we pick some up and bring it back. Hopefully it'll make it to Indiana. Genesee did. :shock:
I have tried the stuff. To me it is a slightly above average light American beer. Personally, I prefer a full-bodied dark beer. Samuel Adams Dark Porter is excellent. Our local packy carries a line of Russian beers. I had never thought of Russia as a great beer-making country, but some of it is very good. The best beer that I have ever had was Ottokringer Dark. This is a local beer that I found in Vienna, Austria. I guess that I'm a bit of a beer snob. Guiness Draft is the beer that I drink most often. Most of my friends use Budweiser to clean tree sap off of their cars.
