Looking at possibly getting this car and was wondering what the Pro's in the Buick Community think. The car is in Cali and owner says no visible signs of rust and no dents all straight. No engine. As you can see it needs some work. I thought I would keep it as is on the outside, something the kids could drive to car shows with me in my 55 Chevy. But for some reason I am attracted to this car. Don't tell my wife!!!!. BUT its 2,000 miles away and need to know if the price is worth the transportation headache from Cali to the rust belt frozen tundra of the midwest. I would drop in an engine and get it running, replace brakes and steering, electrical so its reliable, lower it and run some stock looking rims and tires. No new paint or body work, just patina in case it gets scraped or something. Maybe in the future I would paint it and re-do the interior to match. #1 Whats it worth in your professional Buick Opinion. More Pictures at picturetrail.com/dlsnfl...new project? Can't post pixs due to being a newb to this site.
Thanks. I know how to but since I just registered, the security doesn't allow newbs to post pics right away. Again thank you for the help!.
They do not bring much money relatively speking running and turn key. In the long run they are cheaper to buy turn key. This car needs paint and you have never inspected it in person. There are going to be some things about it that you never anticipated.
I agree with Jim, get on ebay or craigslist and find something closer, that's doesn't need so much work. There are quite a few for sale. I would like to have one of these someday myself, they are one of the best looking cars Buick made. Really fast with class!
I'm not looking to turn it around or flip it, just if the investment is sound. I think I can get it to my door for $1,500.00. This body style just looks plain, bad! Especially with it lower to the ground.
As a voice of reason, consider this: Dropping anything other than a nailhead in to it would be both lame AND very difficult to do. It's been done with 455's and shivvy boat anchors. Nailhead is the cheapest and easiest way to go. But... you've got to find one. They are around, but you have to beat the bushes a bit. As a 1st gen Riv, there are more pieces repopped for it than any other year Riv, but that still isn't many pieces. Whatever it needs, you just may not be able to go to Auto Zone and buy, exclusive of the drive train. That being said, GO FOR IT! Drop a nailhead in it and drive it!
I agree with the guys that say to shop around. for 5K you can prolly get a nice car that runs and drives well and prolly doesn't even need paint. Its a buyers market now for cars and people are dumping stuff like you wouldn't believe. Shop around ... pull up some pine and stay a while :TU: ... Oh, and for the record I think any Rivi up through '73 is BadAzz
do it, I've been around those cars for 4 years now every day i like them more and more to your door 1500$ sounds about right if the body is solid thats the main thing. You can still find motors you just need to look.
Not sure he wants to spend more than a couple grand... ... but I don't know how much you'd have to put in to it to get it to run.. Trans and motor will run you maybe $500 or $600 (possibly more). Engine mounts, PS pump and hoses, radiator, fan, fuel line ... if you can get all that with the engine you buy, then you may be able to pull this off for under $2500. If not, like Alan said, Rivs are the best buy in classic cars. Period. Usually well cared for, usually low miles, usually loaded. And usually for between $5k and $9K.
