Go to do some laundry and I check to see if the wash is done and all I hear is the motor buzzing and there is just standing water in the machine. I thought the timer had broke, but then I looked down at the pressure gauge by the tank. I think my well pump burnt out. I'm getting power to the eletrical contact thing next to the tank and the lights dim a split second when I flip the switch, but no water is being pumped. Just what I need.

    Ouch...

    Check the relay?

EDIT: reread the thread...sounds like you've got yourself a seized pump.

Well, we had a bad electrical storm roll through yesterday and it looks like the pump got hit. Reading 30 amps when it should be 5.4. Plumber said all he was doing all day was checking peoples' pumps who got hit. Coming Wednesday to replace. Mentioned that they use Goulds pumps.

    GOULDS are great pumps.
might want to check into a lightning arrestor. the inground Gould pumps have lightning arrestors cant take 3 or 6 hits, I cant remember, hell i worked in that inductry 1/2 a lifetime ago. but still luv the well water

My well house got hit by lightning two weeks ago in one of our famous midwest storms (you've got to see one to believe it, raised in the NW I had never seen anything like it). The lightning went through the roof and right into the wire. This also had the effect of blowing out light bulbs in the house along with room fans, my computer, CD burner and other items. Anyway, our handy man put a stronger capacitor in and beefed up the wiring. This is working for now, but the experts say he is prolonging the inevitable, which is to replace the pump.

I'm not too riled up about it. Parents house and their homeowners is covering it anyway. I was bummed that I had to miss 3 days of my city job, but my stepdad said he would compensate for my lost time, so I'm sort of getting a 3 day paid vacation. I just have to wash my hands with bottled water, thats all. hehe.
