went out to cruise the primer bucket yesterday and stoped off at jack to get some stuffed jalepeno's and taquitos (gotta love american mexican food) and this guy in an old rustang pulls up next to me. he sees my 72 lark and says, "hey nice chevelle... is there a 454 in there? (even though it clearly says "skylark 350" on the rear quarters) i say "no its got a buick 350 in it." then he says, why did you put a buick motor in there? :spank: then i say... "uuuhhhhh cause its a buick skylark, not a chevelle" then he trys to backpeddle and says, thats right huh? what color are you gonna paint it?" then i tell him... "i donno, i was thinking the same color as your "cougar." :TU: then i just laughed a little and got in my. he didnt have much to say after that. pete:TU:
I kinda feel bad as last night I finally realized what that blue bomber of my friend moms car we use to drive 11 years ago. It was beat up 67-68 350 skylark in blue. It was a fast car but we use to laugh at him as it sat so low, gas would shoot out the gas cap when it hit it. If I knew then what I know now. I think it went to junk yard heaven. SHe got an early 80's regal with a 3.8 that ran well, exept for the coolant running out of the tail pipe. Matt uzzled:
I had some id-jut the other nite preaching to me how the Buick/Olds/Pontiac 455's were all the same I asked him if he knew the bore/stroke #'s, rod lengths, crank journal sizes, cam bearing sizes, lifter bore diameter differences between engines....?? Huh ??? Well do ya ??? (I sure as heck dont....) ....Soo thats why after asking I reached into my pocket and took out my cell phone, answered, and said "Hi Warren !!! Hold on a sec....." and said to Mr. KnowItAll...."Scuuze me....its Warren Johnson. He's got some questions about the new motor I built for him"
Well--there's also what I call the "generic big block" response or comment you get from some of these guys...."I had one of those,, had the 450 MOTOR in it!" That way they are covered whether it's a 455 or a 454. Patton
I also like to ask them if their mother lifts weights. Then when they look at you sideways, say, I was just wondering how she raised a dumbell like you.
This German looked at my Boattail for a while and said: Too bad it isn't the one with the split-window................
Beetle......................it was a German after all..p But to be honest, a lot of people here in Europe think a Boattail is a Corvette. Well it is, but on heavy steroids...
it's like the 350.. Many of my friends(in the 20's) did'nt know there was 4 kind of 350...:error: And don't ask them who to find wich one it is...
Nobody brought this one up. How many times have you Olds guys had to try to explain to some rockhead that a 442 does not have a 442cid motor? I love the cougar comment to mr rustang. Good one!:blast: Mustang seen one seen them all!
I think my favorite is how any B-O-P motor is a "rocket motor." I swear I had 4 or 5 people comment on BOTH my cars (455 and 350) about how those rocket motors sure ran good or they used to have a rocket 455/350.
On a similar note, I have had discussions with Ford guys who tell me I'm nuts when I say the 429 and the 428 actually both displaced 428 cid. Another great discussion is when somebody talks to me about my car and says," I bought one just like it new. I'll never forget it, my first brand new car. Boy did I love that '77 Buick" " I had one just like that, except it was white, had a four speed and was a '65 Pontiac" is another fascinating converstationuzzled: yeah my Dad bought a car just like mine last year, except it's gray, is a hardtop with a V6, and it's a Mercury.
Chris, A kid said just that to me last weekend... Another one: "I used to have a Buick with a Wildcat 455 in it".
Them rockets were good motors. But they should be easily pick out of the bunch with their intake the size of a VW. I was given a 76 Gutlass with a 350 rocket a long long time ago and I could stick it in first and smoke the tire for half a block with well over 100Gs. Matt uzzled:
