http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&item=8031250645&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT I was the happy winner for what I thought was a steal on an SFI Flexplate. So off to the machine shop I go with my SFI Balancer and Flexplate, assuring myself that its worth it to do this motor right. (Balanced & Blueprinted) The machine shop called me early last week and the wheel wasn't just out of balance, but the crank-pattern bolt holes weren't even centered on the wheel. I sent an email explaining the situation to "PerfectCrank", an ebay store, and asked NOT for my money back but an even exchange. I have yet to hear back and we're going on 2 weeks, so just an FYI to all you guys doing 455 builds for the upcoming season... you get what you pay for! [END/RANT] :af:
Just think Ed you could be the only one on your street with an SFI approved wind chime. Just hang it from the front porch with some empty cans tied to it. If that doesnt work you can always go with the SFI approved boat anchor. :eek2:
Are yo usure you did not end up with an Olds flexplate. That is what happened to me once. I have the same flexplates on two of my engines right now with no problems. And yes one of them was purchased from Perfectcrank. They are made by C.A.T.. A ton of them were boxed wrong, marked as Buick with Buick part #s and were Olds plates. It it is about 1/8" or so smaller in diameter, its an Olds.
A year ago I had the same problem from diff vendor Mad Dog in FL . Crank bolt holes all messed up ..got a full refund. I think they "chinese aftermarket " just print up the SFI labels
When the flexplate was bolted to the crank and spun, the gear wobbled to-and-fro and the plate itself looked like a lob-sided ball thrown in the air. It was all-in-all a totally screwed up Flexplate... Chinese SFI'd or not LOL Thats what the machine shop's theory was
i've got one simmilar to that. not sure of the name or what vendor i purchased it from on evil bay. however. it took me about 10 min to figure what holes lined up and what direction the plate was supposed to face. (there is only one way those plates will line up to the crank, right?) let me know if i'm wrong. -nate
