I took apart a "fasten Your Seatbelt" warning pod that sits on top of the dash on 72 gauge cars only. Actually this was for a friends Olds which uses the same one as Buick. I noticed what I thought was a piece of white cloth tape. When I peeled it off it flaked a bit then realized this was a strip of thin asbestos used to prevent he hot bulb from burning the plastic. How do I know this? I have been an asbestos inspector for over 20 years. Best advice I can give is leave it alone. try not to peel it off and do not let it flake. If it falls off glue it back on as nothing is as good at resisting heat. This has been a Buick Public service anouncement. If this were in fact a real emergency you would be asked to grab your ankles and kiss your ass goodby.
This is good to know Dave. I added a fasten seat belt light to my '72 when I added the rally gauges and I have another spare one in my desk. Just took a look at it and I can see the white tape that you described.
Hi Chris, Pretty crazy. Nothing better to resist heat. Here is a picture for anyone who has not seen it.
