So I did a search on E fans and fan clutches etcetera. I have read a lot about a "good fan shroud". What exactly is a good shroud? I am almost certain that I will be needing a new fan clutch for my stock fan (i overheat, or come close to it in traffic etc.). But now I cannot help but think that my fan shroud is no good.

On another note. I was at a show last night, and I was paying particular attention to everyones fan set ups (e fans, fan clutch, no clutch, aftermarket fans etc). I saw a little of everything. What I did find interesting is that I saw only one car out of around 250 (not all had their hoods open) that had a fan clutch. So here is the question, can I get rid of my clutch, and just have the fan running all the time? If so how?

I also saw a lot of setups that included a regular fan, and an additional e fan. Do any of you guys do this? The extra fan was on the grill side of the radiator.

    Thanks !!

I would not do that. There is a good replacemnt fan clutch listed is the archieves I think carried by NAPA.

I think you should keep a clutch by replacing your stock one with a heavy/severe duty.

Here are some part numbers - not sure if they are big block or small block though, I just found them searching some of the archives

The severe-duty fan clutch will help with cooling at low-speeds:

    Airtex 2797TA ($62 from carparts.com)
    Delco 15-4320
    Everco A5570
    4Seasons 36704 ($87, carparts.com)
    Flex-a-lite 5649
    Imperial 215045
    Murray 271301
    TRW FC 135
    Hayden 2797 ($88, carparts.com)

There was a post recently about someone who had an electric fan in between the radiator and A/C condensor, obviously a thin one, plus a clutch fan.
The most common combo is an electric pusher in front (behind the grill) and a clutch fan.
My Dodge truck has a normal clutch fan and shroud, with an electric fan mounted inside the shroud, close to the radiator.

A good HD thermo fan clutch with the fan set in the middle or 3/4 inside the shroud opening, and NO air going around the radiator and a/c condenser is the best route.

Next best is 1 or 2 electric fans BEHIND the radiator, either ducted or right up close to the fins.

Worst place for a fan is in front of everything, it'll block airflow when it's off.

Lots of street rods go with pusher fans in the front, some because there no room, some because they think it's cool-looking. But then, there are an awful lot of really poorly built and horrible-driving street rods out there, too.

mhgs it just takes money !!

    fans ...

I use an electric setup from a 2000 camaro and it fits almost perfectly behind the radiator....even has it's own little shroud and it works great !!
