My dream car is taunting me once again. I swear, I will NEVER have one of these cars! :af:

Now, if I could just go back to 1989. That's when the dream began. If I would have just not dated, not eaten, not bought a Mustang, or a Integra GS-R....

This car was bid up to 85K and he did not take it. Someone was going to pay 85K, maybe he is going to take another swing with a different strategy. I know of one for sale original for 47K and say you paid 30K for the frame off you would still be under what he wants for this car. It is overpriced, but there may be a have to have it person out there somewhere :eek2:

You'll never do a frame off for 30k. It takes AT LEAST 1000 hours to do a proper frame off and with a labor rate of $40-%45 per hour, that's already $40-$45,000 in labor alone. By the time you buy parts and materials, you just might as well double that labor rate for your final price.

    Been there/done that. Twice.

Brad is right except that it would take 1000-1500 hours. I think Dave Kleiner, who is the longest running GS restorer, may now be getting 70K for one. I am not sure what additinal amount, if any parts, may add to that.

That GSX is Tony Sagasse's car. It is a body off the frame restoration. Yes it has glossy stripes, but if I remember correctly, a few years ago it won a Gold award at the GSCA Concours class. I judged the car, and can check later if anyone is interested. It is a beautiful car, what more could anyone want.

That is a beautiful car and I'd give both my nads for it... but...
For that kind of cash, I would like to see the headlight bezels/fenders/hood gaps a little more "centered up". :Do No:

I agree that is a very beautiful car, stunning really. I can see he put quite a bit of effort into making it look correct, but the exhaust? I could live with the other minor flaws but I wouldnt be able to sleep at night if I owned that car and it had that exhaust on it. I know, I'm crazy :moonu:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the body lines :Dou:

    hmmm

Geez......give it a break. You think everything lined up that well when it was new? These cars were mass produced. I guarantee most of our cars line up better than they did new.

Okay.....that was more like my $.04 worth.

People, read what I said above again. To make it clear, you need to double the cost of the labor to reach a final price for a frame off restoration, and that is if you have a pretty good car to start with and not the basket case we all saw sell on ebay a few weeks ago. That one would be more.

So, to do the math: $45,000 cost of labor X 2 = $90,000 apx. cost of restoration. This is for a good car to start with, one not needing every body panel replaced. Your cost may be different. Void where prohibited by law  .

Now, the "value" of a restored GSX. I will say this: A numbers matching 4 speed low option GSX is going in the low to mid $100's at this time ($100,000 to $150,000, just to be clear) in private sales. This will do NOTHING but rise in the future as far out as I care to look. I believe what is happening is the million dollar Mopar guys are selling, they have some (OK, a lot) of cash and want another car. They're looking for the underdog, just like they had and they find a Buick. They cannot believe what great cars these are and how "undervalued" they are to what they are use to. And yes, I said LOW OPTION cars...remember, they are use to Mopars. The days of $40,000 very nice driver GSX's are gone.

I know being a Mopar lover is not a popular thing on this board. Thats O.K. I still enjoy the board and input.

I think Brad hit the nail on the head. I was in contact with him well before purchasing my X. Many Mopar lovers(like myself) like the Stage 1 cars. They are (and will be) buying these cars for enjoyment and the attractive pricing they offer at this time.

Looking out 18 months from now, I believe you will hear of private sales much higher than the #'s being discussed now. I drove mine all summer. What a blast.

It recently left for a full restoration. Dave Kleiner has the car and I look forward to seeing it again next year at this time.

Stage 1 cars offer the best muscle car value at this time as far as I'm concerned. For whatever thats worth. Patrick

So your paying 90k for the resto? Why not become a "private" buyer and save your self the $40k and drive now?

I have been driving. Both the X and Challenger all summer. :3gears:

I agree with Brad that 1000 hours is probably average to do a frame off. Mine will be less than 1000. I'm lucky that my car needs very little as far as parts go. The cost of the restoration will work its self out with Dave. I haven't noticed to many Stage 1, 10 10 X cars for sale lately. Not one with the original drivetrain. Maybe privately. Some QQ cars on Ebay. Ebay is certainly not the place to brake records for high $$$$. Patrick
