I'm so pumped up right now I think I could lift my car off the ground.

Anyway, I was out in the car today riding around doing some errands. I'm on my way to pick up my son from summer day camp at the Y. I'm sitting at a light on Rt. 18, for those of you familiar with Medina, and up pulls a red Ferrari 328 GTS.

The guy looks like a dot.commer who got out in time: 50-ish with his peppered poof of hair and beard/mustache combo. He's revving it up as he comes to the light. I look over and he looks back and says "She run pretty good?" I said "Better than you'd think."

The light turns green and we're off. He did jump me off the line, but that lasted about 3 or 4 seconds, then here comes the Buick. I passed him about 60 mph or so and continued on up to around 100. At that point I had to let off as traffic and my turn was coming up.

Here's the best part. This guy now has the balls to slow down enough to tell me that he'd better not catch me on the highway or he'd rip me a new a*#>%le. Now my car currently has 3.73 gears, so I'd be all done at about 120. But I have a 2.73 rear sitting in my garage all ready to go. It was all I could do to not rush home, put it in, and go hunting for this guy.

Oh well, after Flint I'll put it in. Then pray I find this goober again....on the highway.

    Ouch!

That's gotta hurt the 'ol ego. I love it when some down home greasy handed punk hot rodder type slams a high zoot "exotic". It's the very origin of hot rodding - putting it to the eoropean snobs with ALL AMERICAN HORSEPOWER!!!!

Great story - just check the speed rating on your skins before you uncork that thing with the highway gears!

Never thought of that, only rated for 124 mph. What are DragRadials rated for?

......what a sick feeling it must be...............spend in excess of $100,000 for a car.........and get beat by a 30 something year old Buick!

I can just hear what is going through that poor millionairs mind...

"now wait just a damn minute!...that salesman told me this is the fastest car made......and that old car just beat me!!!!

Ahhhh - the 328 is the cheap one....200 inches and 270 horse V 8 top speed when new and turned is 160, nice starter ferrari. Tell him to call you when he gets a real one....a 12.

Yea, I think you can get one of those things in the high $30's or into the $40's. I don't think I'd want to race a flat 12 Ferrari, especially one of those new Enzo's. They do the quarter in the 11's and have a top speed of over 200 mph!!!!

Phillip, not to get off subject, but I was wondering what it takes timewise and moneywise to do a rearend swap similar to what you mentioned in this thread? Is it pretty involved? Thanks,
    John

    John,
If the other rear is ready to bolt in, and you don't have any problems with frozen bolts and the like, it can be done easily in an afternoon. Maybe a couple hours if u have some help and no problems.

Board Member BQUICK, Bruce, used to drive his GSX from Maryland to Bowling Green, KY with i think a 2.56 rear under the car......and ?? a 4.11 ?? Rear IN the car next to him. :eek2:

Pull into BG on Tuesday, Put the car on jackstands, and before you could pop a few cold ones He was in Race trim for the week.

Sat nite after the finals - Reverse the process and ready for the 13 hr drive home :bglasses: :bglasses:

All you'll need is a complete rear, complete with brakes/drums and brake lines. The whole complete rear, redone and ready to install was about $600. All I have to do is jack it up, remove the tires, unhook the driveshaft, flexible rear brake line, e-brake cables, and the four big bolts that hold it in.

It takes me about 2 hours, including bleeding brakes, to do the job. And because everything is new/loose on the car, it really is quite simple.

Not the simplest way to do it (could get an overdrive tranny), but not overly expensive and if you're not drag racing, it's VERY nice on the highway to be doing only 2100 or so rpm's at 70 mph.

I have an open 2.56 rear sitting at home collecting dust I'd be willing to part with for cheap if anyone is interested...
