I'm running an x pipe and I get a metallic popping noise on decelleration. Does anyone else have this noise? I've made 2 different x pipes and they were both the same. I replaced the first X with straight pipes and it went away, but it also noticably cut the power down. I replaced the x and the power was right there, but it was making the same noise again. Anyone else notice this? thanks Bob
I'm running the GSCA x-pipe 3" system, but It's been a few months since I've had an engine in my skylark... I don't particlarly recall any metallic popping noise, but it certainly changed the exhaust tone from a standard dual system. Does it sound anything like mild backfiring while decelerating?
It actually sounds more metallic. but if you listen under the car, you can hear it coming from the x. It sounds like there is a rattle in the pipes. We are thinking its gases scavenging in the pipes on deceleration. The car is running a touch rich, but not horribly so. I was going to try and lean the car out a little to see if i could get rid of any excess fuel in the exhaust to see if that helps. ???This noise is driving me nuts! !
Yeah, I've heard it. The only way I can describe it is like a metallic Mexican maraca on decelleration. I only heard it for a second though.....then my Lotus pulled away from you. But on a serious note, Bob (Buickgsman) doesn't agree with me on one thing - He has placed both of the X-pipe's in "convenient" locations as far as spacing. I've tried to explain to him that (in my opinion and from things I've read) you can't just haphazardly place the x-pipe where "you" want it to be. The X has to be in the place of the highest temp crossover of the exhaust. I would almost put money on the fact that this incorrect location of the X is creating tonal turbulence thus the annoying noise. Any takers?
no poppin here... I am running a Pypes Exhaust 3" X pipe into 2.5" Goerlich Excellerator mufflers. I love this set up. Good throaty deep rumble but no drone and not too loud at cruiseing speeds. I have read that it is very important to place the X as close to headers as possible. Jake
