68 skylark when i drive the car i hear a wub wub wub sound coming from what appears to be the back passenger side wheel has new rear brakes springs adjusters wheel cylinders etc. drums all around 8.2 rear non posi rhanks chris
sounds like something is wubbing! :laugh: No seriously sounds like the brakes are rubbing. try adjusting the emergency brake. Scott
probably something bent.possibly the drum touching the backing plate if you had to pry the drum off when you did the repair.remove the drum & see if can see any rub marks anywhere.might just need a minor adjustment with a hammer.if you can visually see something.put car on stands.remove wheel.hold drum on with the wheel nuts.run car at low speed & see if anything is bent.
Agree with above and add... Check the axle run out with a dial indicator. NOW the question: Did this all start after the brakes were done? Did you go off raod at anytime hit a curb kid of hard big chuck hole etc? Also be sure the drum seats flat on the axle and there is NO debris/rust left from the old drum on the flange it could be the drum is not seating square
it did start after the brakes were done but not until i was driving it for a month or so no pot holes or off road. had the rear wheel off does not appear to be rubbing the noise starts at about 25 to 30 mph and does not go away if you hit the brakes
I would pull the rear wheels & drums and look closely for inside & outside rubbing, hardware loose. With rear on jacks install just the drums, put in drive and run it up a bit. Then I would install the tires do the same and have someone listen around the wheels for the noise...my.02.
the tires are brand new this year less than 1000 miles on them and filled with nitrogen so no loss of tire pressure
I would look at the tires. Even if they are new, you may have hit a pothole and destroyed a belt or sidewall in the tire. You may also want to check the sidewall for lumps. It has happened to me before. Ken
Personally I would go to the brakes as it goes away when you hit them is the best indication this is the problem area. Jim
I always associate that sound with tires and wheel bearings. I agree on checking the tires. Maybe even rotate them to see if that fixes anything. Check your driveshaft and make sure it is in securely and straight. Brakes would most likely be an out of round drum, but at low speeds I would imagine that it would make a slight scraping noise would it not?
No guarantee that one isn't out of balance or just plain bad. Did you see the post where Sean G took his wife's 4wd to WalMart for an engine oil change and they emptied the front differential? Shop guys are easily distracted and motivated to get things done quickly.
well that caper is solved i just got it back from the shop $416 poorer both rear wheel bearings were bad one was completely blown apart but no more noise and it feels a thousand times smoother driving
