Pretty soon we'll be swiping up for park and swiping down for Drive. The organic driving experience is far behind us. That's why we hold onto our classics. The new generation needs the thrill preserved. Ask anyone who's ever been on an old school wooden roller coaster and that's basically my point. The thrill is superior, even if it is a little slower.
The knob for gear selecting I'd always hit the blower speed control knob "WTH does hi blower have to do with drive?"
About a year ago I had to move a new Acura. I absolutely couldn't figure out how to get the damn thing into reverse. What is worse is that the manufacturers no longer provide a written owner's manual so I couldn't even look up how to operate the shifter button/lever thingy. I didn't have my cell phone with me so I couldn't even Google it. I finally had to call an Acura dealer to find out how to operate the car
As long as everybody is venting, my dad has a Ford Fusion. It has a dial to shift and I absolutely loath it.
try driving a big truck with a 5x4 transmission and not use the clutch once u star rolling. u think u have shifter problems!
I have Ram with the Dial so I have my head around that, fairly straight forward. I rent a lot of cars for work so get to see them all, but I had a new Chevy Tahoe last week with this new selector that just seems to defy logic. You have to put your finger behind the button and pull forward to put it in to gear....just not a normal action. Had a BMW the week before, I drove it a thousand miles and still could not get it in to reverse on the 1st try by the end of the trip...modern engineering my A$$.
I assume these new controls are smart enough won't let you put it into R while moving. Hate to be a little buzzed and think I was putting the rear defroster on..... On my 96 Camaro 5 speed manual, reverse is where 6th might be (straight down from 5th). And there is no lockout at all. I thought I was in my 6 speed Saab and ALMOST went into R at 90mph!
I doubt you could put any of those in reverse at speed even if you tried (other than grinding noises). Non-synchro gears have their own safeties
I had a rental Ford 500 a few years back . Was doing 60 and shoved it in Reverse . All it did was stall the engine . While still rolling I put it in Neutral and restarted with no problems .
My wifes 2020 Acadia has the button shifter above the center console. I don't drive it much and it was embarrassing when I put it in Park instead of neutral at the entrance of car wash, stopping the line. Talk about feeling like an idiot. Not a big fan of it but its just something else to get used to.
