I'm a newbie to the board and to Buicks. I just bought a '65 Electra convertible in need of both the left and right quarter windows. Any help?
Hello, welcome aboard! I have a pair that are factory tinted but would like to double check for you. I own a '65 Electra convertible myself. Can't hardly beat that Nailhead power!
If junkman doesn't have them, I have a set from a 2dr hardtop coupe. Not sure, but assuming, they would be the same.
swappable glass? Thanks for the response. It's Dark Blue with a light blue interior & white roof, 82K original miles. I am picking it up tomorrow night. It's going to need work on the rocker panels (typical New England), but first off it needs quarter windows. Apparently it's not a good idea to rasie the roof with the windows in the up position(?) Anyway, the seller told me that the '65-'66 Buick, '65-'66 Olds 98 an '65-'66 Caddy windows were all the same. True or false? BTW, mine is a no A/C Northeast car, so there is no tint (I think?) Any help?
You might want to check because I have seen plenty of cars without a/c that had tinted glass. And I do have a pair of the 1/4 windows. Also have the door glass -tinted. Ted
Thx Junkman Thanks Junkman. I'm picking up the car tomorrow night. I'll let you know whether it's tinted or not. I may take you up on ALL the side (tinted) glass. How much would you want for the glass? Any other tips/trick pitfalls on these cars? When I was younger, I worked in an ignition shop rebuilding starters/alternators and doing some basic mechanic work. I also spent after school and summers in a body shop. I'd like to learn as much as I can from those who have been there. First order of business is removal of the badly weather cracked bias plys. Then belts/hoses and all fluids. What else should I look for or weak links (so to speak) with the Buicks? Thanks in advance, Pete
These are very good cars. Rust likes to form in the rocker area and for some reason, the body mount area in the front corners inside the trunk like to rust out. If it has been setting up for a long time without running, like a few years, the valves might be stuck. Not all of them, but one or two.The nailhead engine uses very small diameter pushrods that bend easy.Aftermarket replacements are thicker in diameter.I usually replace all of them with new ones from TRW or other engine parts suppliers. But if your engine runs good,I wouldn't worry about that. The Nailhead engine is a very durable, strong engine. The transmission is bulletproof too. About the glass, let me know what you need ,we'll go from there. Ted
Thx agin (continued) Bingo. The Rockers are shot on this car. The car had always been stored inside up until '95, then the last owner stored it under cover, but outside. Consequently the roof and interior are in great shape, but the undercarriage is in tough shape. As a matter of fact I believe the frame is going to need a patch (for longevity). Typical spot (LF) where road crap kicks up onto the frame. Thx, Pete
