    Hello,

    i bought myself a 72 Buick GS 455 !! :Brow:

There is a question about a "pipe " on the driverside manifold, which was not connected to somewhere.

When the car was running, there was pressure on it, i guess it has to be connected to the emissions "cole-filter" the black thing (don`t know the right word for) on the driversside front of the car....right ??:Do No:

HHhhhmmm what to do to get a little of the `70s GS power back ??

i feel the car is strong, it burns very fast, has no A/C and posi..

thanks and we will see us here more often, cause i sold my small block car.

    is that posi factory ?
Now i read much in this Threads and learn more about tuning the 72.
But is the pipe on the manifold for emmision ?

    Michael-

That might be the "heat riser" pipe, on the driver's side exhaust manifold.

Some (all?) of the cars came from the factory with a pipe connecting the exhaust manifold with an inlet on the air cleaner. This allowed hot air to be pulled into the motor to help warm up faster, especially in cold weather.

Do you still have the factory air cleaner?

If it's on the intake manifold, driver's side , it's the A.I.R. pump tube. Does it have the smog pump on it ?:Do No:

    Hello,
i have off course the factory air cleaner and is connected with the exhaust manifold, that`s clear.
It is on the drivers side intake manifold, bit i don`t know about a smog pump.
but over the steering pump is missing something, i guess, cause there could be a pump before, there is a holder.:Do No:
should i close the manifold there with a plate if the pump misses ?
or do loose power tha or give the engine to much pressure?

i just connected it to this plastic dose in front of the car driverside, cause their was a wear out hanging arround the area where the wear out from the intake manifold was.
    thanks a lot.

It sound like your A.I.R. pump is missing. It is just that, an air pump. It pumps air into the exhaust port and down the manifolds and exhaust system. Its purpose is to help burn any unburned fuel particals that escaped the combustion cylinder in an effert to reduce exhaust emissions. It does not effect how much power your engine makes.

    Aha,
so should i close it ?:Brow: is it no problem to the engine ?

..or will the best be using a T/A manifold with the original carburator?
and what for is that plastic dose in front of the cars driverside ?:Do No:
    thanks a lot

I would close it and you will be fine.

The other thing is a round black thing with rubber hoses going to it? If so that is another emission item. It was used to capture fuel vapors and doesnt do anything for performance.
