Just saw this on E-bay. Looks like the real deal. 70 GSX Now were did I put that powerball ticket! Kevin :3gears:
You will notice that it's not stated anywhere that this car is "original" only that it has 58,000 miles. I wonder what it looked like 6 months ago when this seller acquired it? Harvey
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think that all GSX's were Stage 1's. Someone may have just slapped the sticker on the air cleaner lid. But I would have reservations about this car without a thorough inspection and seeing any paperwork before bidding.
from the listing, 1970 buick GSX stage 1 original california car. the motor is all number matching from the carb to the rear end. it is powered by a 455 v8 stage 1 360- hp. ( end qoute. ) this would be the first stage 1 i've ever heard of that didnt have chrome valve covers. true, not all GSX's were stage 1's, but i would like to see some sloan documentation before i paid big bucks. he also claims only 678 QQ cars were built, but my book says there were only 678 total GSX's in 1970. i never heard of a GS with a 3.91:1 axle ratio either. did they make such a ratio ? nice car, i just question the accuracy of some of his statements. henry
1970 gsx all 1970 gsx air conditioned cars i believe came with 3.42 gears. the non-ac ones like mine had the 3.64 gears. the 1970 stage 1 valve covers were definitely chrome. im not knocking the car, just stating some facts.
Here's another one. Doesn't say "all original" or anything like that, but the valve covers are painted. John
I think the 3.91:1 was an option, I was reading something the other day that had all the GS rear end codes and specs and I remember seeing the 3.91:1 listed. Now if I can just find it I'll scan it and post it here. :TU:
Yes, a 3.91 gear was optional. Most people did not order that steep of a gear as, in reality, Buick's really don't need that much torque multiplication.
that listing does say it has a non original 1970 455, i think that would explain why that car has painted valve covers. it seems that seller made an accurate description of his motor. there is a 3.91:1 gear set listed in the parts book, but i dont see that listed as being a factory option in the guide to GS. maybe the gears were changed when the car was new ? it would be nice to have some sloan/ roberts documentation. original or not, i would be proud to own it. henry
Henry Because of when they were made in 70 only Wayne has the 70 GSX info of this type. We had a 70 GSx stage 1 before our current one with the 4.78 peformance gear.
The first car also seems to be a repaint with the side stripes not duplicated very well. They are the same width nearly the length of the car.
