Probably will have to get the frame mounts from a junkyard but that should be easy.Look for 78-87 Buick Regals with a v6 and get them. Can't be too tough. The actual motor mounts will work but getting a set from NAPA or your local parts place is a smart idea. Make sure you mark the frame pads as the may not let the motor sit in them if you swap them on the wrong side.I did a 350 swap in my 81 Regal and it was easy. Also make sure you have a V8 radiator. I tried using my V6 radiator, but had all kinds of overheating trouble. The other thing you may want is a different trans crossmember with a dual hump to run exhaust. Most are single exhaust and when you run dual pipes it hits the crossmember. They do sell crossmembers but I do not remember the company that sells them.
Unless you get a transdapt plate that adapts it to it. They are relatively cheap...Summit and Jegs sell them. .http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/751074/10002/-1
yes some had the dual bellhousing bolt pattern, i actualy picked one up a while ago out of an 84-86 305 equipped monte i'm 95% positive all the g-body v8s came with the 200r4 and that non had 700r4s and all the v6s cars came with the ****ty 200 metric
"G" body cars never came with a 700 transmission, no exceptions. They were either 200R4, 200 metric, and I think the early models like the Malibu (which were actually "A" models but looked like other "G" bodies so everyone calls them "G" bodies) came with I think they called the 350C.
100% correct on the 350c. was and is a light duty lock torque converter. a regular shift kit will work, but you need a specific valve body gasket for it,as a normal t350 will NOT work. neither will a convetional stall, either.
I could swear I pulled a 700r4 out of a 87 ss when I was at the Acura dealer. That was about 16 years agoou: Anyway you look at it, the 350 needs a better trans. Kurt
That would have been 1993 and someone could have swapped one in as the Monte was 6 years old. How crazy is this V8 Buick site, the guy that started this thread only wanted to know if a Buick 350 would fit in a Monte and now were all arguing over transmissions, I love it (LOL).
You would be right, I helped a guy work on one 87 monte. It was the early crappy 700 with the iffy front pump and when they went out and all the shop said it had to be a total rebuild, all new parts, lines, said flushing wasn't good enough from the pump blowing. All shops around at the time said the same things and they all wanted about $2500 at the time and scared him away. To save money he ended up putting a stick in it.
Yes make the swap using an adapter plate from chevy to Buick Olds Pontiac trans pattern and make sure it comes with spacers for the torque converter bolts. The only way to know what trans you have is if you find the ID tag although it should have a 700R4. The 200r4 all have the multipattern chevy and BOP from what I have seen and they are good. I had read a lot of bad things about the 700R4 and have completely changed my mind about it! I have a 85 GMC safari van and the thing has 300,000 km on original 4.3 with Q jet and 700R4....Not even tired, no engine noise or shifting issues, amazing. I traded a SBC for a 81 Buick buick 350 from an 81 estate wagon and the trans was a th350C. The T Converter went out three times before the car had 50,000 miles at which point the engine/trans were pulled. Good news for me and the th350C went for scrap money. It was also a dual pattern trans but the only th350 I have seen!
