I have a 70 SF 455 that I put in my 69 to save the the stage engine. I had the heads lite ported on the 455 when I installed it with new seals. I saw some worn and broken rocker arm contacts that I replaced. The motor is stock other than that 1 year later I (now) took the rockers off to replace the springs which are original because the motor will not rev over 4900 with out breaking up( I know I was low on money when I had the heads done).
I took the rockers off and one contact is broken is half on the valve side and the the rest are looking worn. Meaning the silver is off some . This motor has about 50000 on it .I did the easy oil modes. Should I replace the rockers with rebuilt or just replace the the bad arms. I know it is all about money. However if it is not going to make a make my car run beter I will spend. Does worn rockers make less horsepower on a street machine .Pos. or neg are :Brow: all good. thanks Dave

I have a coffee can full of those'70 rockers. I also have a set of the later steel ones which are stronger.

    Dave,
Lifter preload is really important. When the valvetrain is adjusted properly, those rocker last a long time. Adjustable pushrods is the cheap easy way to do this. I have a friend who broke rocker arms on a constant basis. The adjustable pushrods fixed the problem. Get a new rocker assembly, and adjustable pushrods.
