I've STILL got my front bucket covers new in the box. Tell me how you do with yours and any "secrets" that you learn from doing it yourself! :Brow:
Do alot myself, but its nice having someone else around. My cousin has a awesome garage. The car goes in the second story and is open underneath(who needs a lift). Changed a clutch out of an 82 Scrambler, no problem. They don't like mud either. That's how I fixed the rear main on the 81 F-250 woods hoopie. Get it packed in there enough, nothing will come out!! Try to get swamped in clay mud though, it'll get ceramic like. Organic mud stinks when it gets cooked on the manifolds and crossover pipe.
I do everything myself but on occasion will have a "helper" for big jobs where you need an extra set of hands or to bounce ideas off of. A lot of guys can be intimidated by so called "big stuff" but if you read some good books, help out a few friends doing it, you can learn to do it on your own. Me personally...well I am CHEAP...meaning I won't pay anyone to do something I can do myself. It's just the way I was raised I guess. My last car I did all the body/paint work (first time) as well as the mechanical stuff. It turned out great and it gives me a sense of accomplishment being able say I did it. I'll probably do everything on my 71 Skylark convertible except the new top. But then again depending on what a friend will charge to do it...I might do it myself  Bill
I guess you could say I do it all myself. I don't know how to rebuild engines or transmissions, but I can install them! Sometimes my tactics are " a little unorthodox". Frank
Well, I try to do everything myself. Here is how it normally works. Myself and my father go out to work on my car. He watches me work, lends a hand and an ear when I need it [Like the first time doing something new, or the Bigger items both in terms of size (dropping a tank) or complexity (Rear end swap)] Sometimes though I'll come home to find him working on my car all by himself, although he wont say he likes it, I know he does.
doing it myself. One reason it has been apart for almost three years. ou: thinking of farming out the final paint.
working on the cars most of the time I prefer to work by myself. Its the only time that I get to unwind and relax. If I do not have the skill or knowledge to do the job then it is something that I need to learn. That is one of the most rewarding things to say yes I finally learned how do do that. It only took me 7 or 8 times but hey its done! Mark
I do everthing myself, but the body work and painting of the body, my brother does that. The rest of the restoration work including minor paint I do and look forward to going out in the shop....Keep it fun!!! :TU:
I'll do most of the work myself, but some work I will have it sent out. Luckily my car doesnt need much work.
cant do the body work the rest i am doing..........my dad helps me when i need extra hands ..him or my bro in law and occasionally my friend josh also cant do the machine shop stuff cause i dont have the tools other than that its all me
My own car ou: , My wifes car, the kids car, my truck, my daily driver all by myself. My Buick with help form my friends at V8BUICK.com :beer
I need a whole load more of tools to do alot of work on my car myself, but I have a pretty good base knowledge and could do alot of the work, but just don't have the special tools needed for some things. I have quite a bit of tools but still need a lot more to do all the work. I still do a lot on it when I can. :TU:
think its kinda impossible to do it all by yourself sometimes you just need extra hands.........especailly for heavy things
For sure...I always considered "doing it yourself" to mean that you didn't pay a shop to do it, buying beer or pizza for friends is payment I guess but in a different way. BTW, like your sig, I have 97 Silverado RCSB 5.7, love that truck...have you heard the news about the 07's coming soon?? More power, better mpg (six speed autos) new interiors, new styling, lower prices...yeah!! I'm in the market... OK, back to the Buicks... later Tim
I don't have a spray booth, so somebody else painted my car Paid someone else to put the rebuilt tranny in, because that was part of the warrantee on it Paid somebody else to do my seats Paid a machinist for hot tank, bore n hone, magnaflux block and crank, turn the crank and install cam bearings and galley plugs Paid a welder to replace rear frame rails and trunk floor Insurance put on new quarter panels after an accident Everything else you see on the car is done by me, good or bad
yeah that 6 speed is bad i want one oh my trucks pics are posted in the tow veh if you want to see it
