Nice looking piece! Do you have a link to where to buy it? It's hard to tell but is it the same height as a WIX filter? My 69 Riv frame is right near the oil pump/filter housing so I can't use a tall filter as I'm limited to space.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-k-and-p...2OFGwUcOFAJdMhoTSdUZH7P_9kyZChIxoCccYQAvD_BwE That link has it a bit cheaper than what I paid. I was worried about shipping speed so I paid the extra money and bought it on ebay. I currently have a mobile 1 M1-107a, which is a very small filter, and the K&P S16 does not appear to be much larger. I'll grab a picture of them side by side when I swap it.
Just threw the K&P on. It is pretty much the same size as the mobile 1 filter. This is a great fit for 67 GS400 guys as any larger of a filter and it will hit the lower rad hose.
I feel bad its mounted inside such a rough engine bay, but it will be nice eventually haha When I swapped from the Wix to the mobile 1, I saw my hot oil at idle drop to about 15psi from almost 20psi. This K&P filter my hot idle pressure is almost 25psi.
Here is the issue with the newer WIX. Anti-drainback pushed away by high oil pressure never to return to it's original position so basically does nothing. You actually see past the flapper into the filter.
That's what subcontracting to the Communist Chinese will get you. I notice when buying a filter for a Ford Focus, that I had to buy a Motorcrap filter, the Wix and the O'Reillys store brands were Chinese--except for the O'Reillys PREMIUM filter which was made in VIET NAM. The Motorcrap filter is "Majority Made In USA", which I hope means the silicone anti-drainback valve, or the neoprene o-ring is imported rather than the filter media. I can't stop thinking about this video. It terrifies me. And although the title of the video is about "How car oil filters are made", in the end the filter is labeled as a fuel filter.
I'm guessing those particular filters has a good chance of having trash in them from the way they are made
Trash, rusty internal parts as seen in the video, no glue on the filter media seam so fluid might bypass the filter media, potential leaks where the media is glued to the end-caps...I could go on and on. One wonders where they source the rolls of paper filter media. How consistent is it; any tears in the pleats, etc.
Since the German company bought out Wix we really have no idea what the specifications are for the one tried and true oil filter. I a m supposing I’ll have to do my research of other researchers , like us, to determine my next go to filter.
I installed and ran my filter from Steve Reynolds today. I have to report after a few days for oil pressure buildup on initial start because the filter was a bit slow. I think because the filter needed to fill up. It drained out a bit on install because it is open on the side. Not sure if it is the filter or the oil (I am using Lucas 10w40 for the first time instead of napa 10w40 with additive), but the oil pressure sits at 21psi idle in drive from 18/19 before and normal cruise 64/65 from 60 psi before. So far so good. I like it. Report back after a few days sitting.
I just bought a Purolator filter to fit my '97 K2500 7.4L. Despite being another Mann + Hummel company, the filter says "Made In USA". I don't understand the logic of Big Business, but apparently Mann + Hummel brand Wix has been thrown to the dogs, while Mann + Hummel brand Purolator is retaining some quality. That, or the Purolator filters are old-stock, and maybe the current production is as creepy as Wix. God bless Baldwin.
The three WIX filters I get through NAPA are, or have been until now, all made in the USA. The one for the GS, plus the two daily driver's - 3.6 Outback and a 4.o Lexus. Shrug. But I am paying close attention to these threads...
Its not mine but I did see it at the nationals and it does fit in the stock location. Its smaller that the Wix as well
That video above, there's a few different things to consider. 1. look at all the people they employ. 2. With all the non-precision, you're guaranteed that just like people, no two filters are exactly the same. These filters will likely go on the trucks that have the axles roll out on the highway like the videos you see on youtube.
