....like everything else....China. New production Wix 51258 oil filters will now list China as country of origin

Well at least they list it as Country of Origin, instead of hiding it.

No more Wix filters for me.

PS, Why would China want a war with us, their making a fortune off us! Vet

Be interesting what shortages there would be if we got in conflict with China and trade stopped.

The only filter to use these days.. slick..

Just received my latest order of 5... 4 for customer engines, and 1 for my winter truck...

Made top to bottom in the USA.

By far the easiest cleanable filter to use on the market. Just depress the element, and then a 1/4 turn, and it's apart.

    Super easy.

Standard equipment on Every TSP engine.

I picked this Wix up a few weeks ago from a local NAPA... The Wix I have for my Road King is also USA made, but the Wix HP I have on the shelf for my wife's Outback was made in South Korea.

The question I have is... it looks like the K&P filter is rated for 35 microns and the paper filters are generally around 20. @Jim Weise - are you using the K&Ps for initial break in as well, even with flat tappet cams?

There is actually a good book out there called "Chip War" by a gentleman named Chris Miller. Even modern things made in the USA, when you can find them, are made with processors that are made in Taiwan. Something like 70 percent of the world's computer chips are made there. The point of the book is basically "This is the next oil."

I've seen WIX oil filters made in the US, Mexico and S Korea for the H/K stuff. I haven't seen a Chinese WIX aka Mann & Hummel oil filter yet, but I wouldn't doubt it. Napa is now PGI, made in China, and I've stopped using them. WIX/M&H seem ok so far. Too many problems with Napa and their fill-in suppliers.

Micron is spending billions on a new plant 5 minutes away from me. It will take a few years before the first chip is made, if it really happens, and a lot of good and bad will come from it. Real estate around here now is insane because of it.

It's not quite that simple Dave.. here's a good technical description of filtering and how it is tested.

I have no concern using these on a new flat tappet engine.

So Napa has stopped using Wix as their supplier as they have been very unreliable. Any old stock is Made in USA by Wix and the new ones are Baldwin.

We have been disappointed in the new filters. Those are overseas ones also.

The K&P filter is obviously an excellent performer, but the appearance is unacceptable for certain cars. What is the best option for a stock appearing show car?

China makes a ton of prescription Meds for us too. In 2018, China accounted for 95 percent of U.S. imports of ibuprofen, 91 percent of U.S. imports of hydrocortisone, 70 percent of U.S. imports of acetaminophen, 40 to 45 percent of U.S. imports of penicillin and 40 percent of U.S. imports of heparin.

Department of Commerce study that found that 97 percent of all antibiotics in the United States came from China.

For example, the chemical starting material used to make doxycycline, the recommended treatment for anthrax exposure, comes from China.

....and is it all safe and up to standards....? Are all batches tested? Of course not. I worked for FDA and I seriously doubt it....not enough resources....

Thanks for the link, I remember reading it when the K&P discussion first came around.
I am a believer of the technology, as I've have a System 1 filter on my Mustang since 2000, but I put it on after the dyno session - and that was a long time ago.

We would be crippled. We as a country have lost the ability to produce those things that we need and rely on

We should be self reliant on things especially like electronics. Imagine if China has built in an "off" switch into their electronic components that they could control?

For now, Baldwin (like the B9 filter I have) and Hastings filters are still made in the USA as well

There is a lot of argument they likely have for many things. Most network gear, cell phone towers as examples. The cranes that operate in most large ports, are made by them.

In my line of work I read about and know a thing or two about China. I go to conferences, I get to listen to actual experts speak. And I don't think its all doom and gloom necessarily. Does America broadcast every countermeasure they have before they need t use them? No.

But lets not pretend it would be a walk in the park.
