WIW, 70 Torino GT 429 SCJ - UPDATED!

Coming up at an insurance pool auction is a '70 Torino GT 429 SCJ w/ Shaker hood :TU: . The car looks good but did have water to mid door :ball: . Car was driven :3gears: to the pooling place and even though the shaker is missing in the pics it is there. What do you think it would go for at auction and what would it bring after redoing?

I was looking at one of these before buying my Buick. I'd bet if it's running and not rusted out that it would fetch upwards of $10K if it's a true SCJ. Redone they go in the mid to upper $20K's.

Those cars are really cool! I'll be the first to admit that I find most Fords boring and lack-luster in the performance dept......But I would take one of those in a MINUTE!

Biggest immediate problem with a flood car is the smell of mildew. I recall about 1/2 dozen trilevel rail cars returning to Lansing with new (at the time) 1971 Oldsmobiles on there. All 3 levels went underwater somewhere out East (Pa.?) They stripped and replaced the interiors , cleaned them, flushed the engines, trans, rear end, etc. then sold them for 1/2 price. Pity the next owner who probably wasn't told about that part.

I'm taking it that it didn't as it was driven to the sale site and they have been driving it around the yard :3gears:

I had afreind who had one of these . He put a tunnel ram on it and went some mid 12's with it. I think they are the most under rated muscle cars of all time. :3gears:

I went to Fall Carlisle the beginning of the month and one of the bargains IMO was a 71 Torino GT 429 4sp. one small scratch/ding on the exterior. dark green exterior with I believe a black (or green) interior. Car just looked sooo nice. asking price, $11,900 and it didn't sell when I left Sat afternoon. It was brought in by a classic car place in Ohio (Keepsake auto sales?). I've got a pic on my laptop, I'll have to see about posting it.

  9. i had that car when i was a kid
    428, 4spd, 4bbl highrise
posi 3:55's 60's on back 70's on the front.
i paid $400 for it in 1978, the car was 8 years old and the guy was getting devorced.
handed him the cash and drove off. :3gears:
was the puck green color mine was.
ran swing set polls from the front to the back
put spark plugs in the back with afterburner. :Dou:
when you let off on the gas the flames would go over 20 feet behind me.
friend told me it would never work
had him stand in the back reved it up and hit the switch :moonu: :blast:
burnt the hair right off his legs and heard alot of whining back there :af: :ball: :3gears:
    good lick

To find some more info about this car, and verify if it's a legit SCJ car, go Here .
I used to own a 71 Mach 1 with the 429 SCJ, it was a real screamer. These cars will appreciate in value.

    auction results

Boy was this car Super clean other than the silt left behind from the water. I think it would be safe to say that it had all original body panels. Bidding on it started a $9000 and ended at $12,600 with the winning bidder doing it by phone. From the sounds of it it was going overseas :ball: . The insurance company cut a check to the owner for $29,000  .

    I'm confused here :Do No:
So, the insured company considered this car a TOTAL loss?????
Couldn't they just pay to have the 'damage' corrected.....I can't see that costing more than a few grand. But they 'totaled' it instead???
Wonder if it now has a salvage title...
I don't get it.... guess I'll never understand insurance companies.....

Somebody ended up with an awesome car!
I spotted a '70 Mercury Cyclone sitting at a tranny shop last week....looks like it had been sitting for years....I gotta stop and check it out! I'll try to get some pics...

I think insurance companies are so overwhelmed these days (9/11, hurricanes) they don't investigate as much as before. They just pay off, move on, and raise the rates on everyone else. Lawyers win, politicians win, insurance companies win, lawyers become politicians, politicians hire more lawyers, ...................we all lose. :Dou:
