My Wiesco's on stock rods didn't require any Mallory, they did sit .052 in the hole. Didn't stop it from running 11.60's with 9.6 comp tho.

Must have been the pontiac rods that added all the weight then. still .050 in the hole is far from desirable. it'll still run pretty good though!

In your previous post I thought you implied that the additional mallory weight was needed to balance your assembly was due to the heavy rods.

I thought it was a combination of the two, with the rods being a little more significant. either way the wisecos are heavy.. it's still worth the conversation with your builder..

Yea SD rods are heavy so I've heard, I will say I spun my Wiesco's to 6800 in my last combo and it would get there pretty quick , considering I was running 3/8 valves with all the heavy stuff that goes with those. But yea definitely talk it over with the builder he will want to use what he feels comfortable with.

Since my deck is already milled 20 I wont worry much if my pistons are in the hole 30 or 40. I can't justify spending a handful of bills on porting and matching my intake to the heads due to excessive milling. I know its not the best location for pistons at TDC, but since compression will likely be lower then anticipated detonation wont be as big of a issue.

You will be losing quench which will increase the chance of detonation issues really. if your heads are milled .020, and the deck is hit .020 you might already have intake fitment issues. it's not so much the ports will be off as much as the bolts won't start.

I had a typo on a previous post. I didn't mill the heads, just the deck of the block got milled 20. I can have it milled to zero deck the pistons, but the cost to make the intake line up might not be worth the expense.

    I wouldn't sweat the .020

The Super Duty H-beam rods are heavier than the aftermarket forged I-beam Pontiac replacements rods(if you can find those anymore) with some of them available with press fit wristpin that costs a bit less than the H-beam rods.(but aren't rated for as much HP as the H-beams, 500 HP instead of 700 HP)

You don't want to try to use factory Pontiac rods because IIRC they are cast iron, not the best for performance use.

    Its kind of hard to resist prices like these even if the big end needs to be re-worked;

More than half the cost at that price is for the ARP bolts! I have bought a sbc 4340 forged 4.00" stroke crank from here before(for a friend's sbc 434 build) and was impressed with the finish machining, no re-work needed and only $375 shipped back when bought! My machinist was even impressed, he was expecting to have to send it out for a regrind! I can't guarantee these rods will be the same though, but maybe? Most import rods are made in the same hut, what separates them is the machining quality, some are even finished machined here like Scat for example, still imports but finished machined here.

The reason for using the Pontiac rods are that they are up to .025" longer than the factory BBB rods which means less deck machining to get the piston up higher in the bore with one of the off the shelf poorly designed pistons for a BBB.(as mentioned) GL

hard to tell from your post, but you are aware the super duty rods are forged?

Yeah sorry I should of wrote that, but the rest of the Pontiac factory rods are cast just to be clear.

    I have Wiseco pistons.
    Got them off ebay.
    Zero issues.
Also almost zero deck, Stock Rods, 10.7 compression.

What is the deck measurement? Did you have it balanced? Are you including the gasket in your calculations? Stock rod length?

    Thanks, Matt
