Is there a particular reason the starter wires need to run all over the engine, down the front and then back to the starter? I'm going to untape mine, so I could change it if it was a good idea. I think my 350 car's engine harness may be too short for the 455's anyway, especially after I cut it in a couple of places... :Dou:

Not sure exactly what you mean, but it may be related to the coil getting full voltage during starting off the starter lead, then getting reduced voltage during normal running from the resistor wire lead.

By the way, if you do get a new harness and are planning to go with HEI , like a Dave's Small Body, you can have them make up the harness for a full 12 volts at the coil instead of a resistor wire. That's what I did.

Before I put the BBB in, I'll be sure to sanitize my hands and tools, hire Curt Schilling's surgeon to help (because MY hands might slip), remove the grille, triple wrap it in lambskin, box it in a NOS box, order an armored car, deliver it to the bank and store it in my safe deposit box.

    That SHOULD keep it safe.

    Did I forget any steps?

    Oh, I know, I know. I think it's funny.

But seriously, folks, how hard is it to remove the connector at the firewall?

Easy, I think there's one bolt in the center, if I recall, then jusy wiggle her loose. All connectors on both sides, no wires to mess with.

Here's a pic I just snapped of my firewall connector after the harness was removed. There's two harness that interconnect there. The engine harness and the front harness for lights, etc.

You're better off wiring your engine up outside of the car and then after install simply plug her in.

The whole firewall looks kinda hideous if you ask me. But hey, that's the reason it's apart- to be put back to spanking new again!
