So I want to put all new wiring in my sons 71 Skylark but I am confused big time, If I buy a painless kit, does that include the wiring for everthing on the car? The ends too? or do I have to put them on individually? Does American Autowire have a kit? Because all I can find from them on the internet was to buy a Engine harness, Dash harness, and a rear harness? But I have a feeling that those three don't do the whole car, Does the American Autowire Dash Harness come with the fuseblock? The biggest deal is, I guess, is that we are making it look like a GS, took out the 350/th350 and put in a 455/th400, hood tach and ralley guages instead of lights, etc.. So if someone has some info and experiance, I would appreciate the crap out of it hahaha:)
    Thanks,
    Todd

I installed a new Painless wiring harness in a 1970 Monte Carlo this spring. It was the "Universal Muscle Car" harness, and did wire the entire car. I liked the modern fuses, and the extra circuits for fuel pump relay, electric fans, etc. Many of the wires were pre-terminated, and only needed to be plugged into the correct position of each connector. Others were intended to be user (installer) terminated, and had to be trimmed to length, then terminals soldered in place that fit the original style connectors. There were a few hurdles such as the need to modify forward lighting circuit to allow for 2 headlight system (71 Skylark would not require this), and a few issues with color-coded wire positions on various switches, but it went fairly smoothly. There were only a few bugs to work out, most of which were mentioned in the instructions.

The harness included lots of terminal ends (more than enough to wire the car), and the instructions were sufficiently detailed for a guy like me who HATES wiring problems.

Check out M&H if you want replacement harness. http://www.wiringharness.com/

They will build your harness to your specs also, based on your equipment options. Takes them a little time to do it, and it is pricey, but it will be complete and all you do it put it in.

American autowire is the way to go. They do come with the fuse box. Everything plugs in where it should. By the way M+H and American sell the same parts. Here is a real $$$$ saver that you cannot get from M+H. Look up the part numbers you need on the American site. Then go to the Rock auto site. Do a part number search and after you put in the part number put in American Autowire for the manufacturer. Order these from Rock Auto and they will drop ship from American. I ordered several harnesses this way and saved $100's. No kidding. If you do not order harnesses this way you are nuts. I even got the repro T3 headlights this was for big savings.
