Well, thinking my car is a couple patches away from getting put on the road I decide to take it for a test drive...again. My friend scott gives me an old duralast battery he said needed to be charged. I leave it on the trickle charge and still the battery is dead. So I go for a jumpstart. The car starts after a while, my friend revs his engine to get things going I notice my radio won't turn on and then the car dies. So I figure this battery is crap, I go back to my old one that also doesnt hold a charge after everytime it rains even though the car is garaged. The car starts up after a while and the radio turns on but the buttons don't work for what they are supposed to. I also get radio stations like 108.00 and 88.55. Thanks to my little escapade my steering is now out of alignment and now I have a radio that is all messed up which I am sure is a sign of worse things to come. I drive to my friends house down the road and turn the car off and it is dead.

Any ideas? I do not have a fender to ground strap but I do have a ground from the motor to the firewall. Nothing is a worse feeling than running into issues after doing something stupid:Dou: At least I got the car sideways!

Did you check the main engine harness?

Get a volt meter and check the output of the alternator. Make sure it is putting out 13.6 to 14.2 volts when the engine is running. If the battery won't hold a charge, then it is bad and you will need to get a new battery.

Yeah, I have to stop cheaping out and finally get a new battery. I will also get a gauge setup and make sure the alternator is all right. I would almost assume it is okay because once I get on the gas the lights power up to normal brightness. But I don't have underdrive pulleys so the lights should be fine off idle.

The motor to firewall ground strap is frayed so I will replace that, maybe the Main harness needs to be cleaned at the firewall since it has been plugged in and pulled out alot with all the times I have pulled off the forward harness.

When I brought the car home that night the final jump worked out fine and the radio was back to normal.

That was the end of my halfway driving as the car is back apart again so things can get patched and painted. I learned that my idler arm needs to be replaced and I'm sure other things need to be taken care of so I am buying a front end kit. I am even considering new shocks depending on what I have left for cash.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll post back when the car is running again:laugh:

Yea, no need in buying a battery to just let it sit.

Won't be sitting too long hopefully, all hands are going to be on deck to get this car on the road in a couple weeks:TU:
