Wiring an auxiliary fuse box

    Hi everyone,

I am working on the wiring in my 70 Wildcat, prior to putting the new engine in. I am installing a auxiliary fuse box to run gauges, and other non-factory accessories. My plan is to bring power to the new fuse box using a relay. The constant hot input would come from the "BAT" terminal on the back of the alternator. The switch power input to activate the relay would come from the "R" post on the starter solenoid.

Is this a good plan? The "R" solenoid post is hot when the key is on?

    Thanks for your help

    Paul

No the "R" terminal on the solenoid is only hot during cranking. Painless wiring has add-on fuse block kits. See how they do it.

    Thanks for the info.

I have a nice fuse box, and a bunch of electrical supplies - so I was trying to skip out on paying a premium for a pre-fab kit. I think I have found the junction for the input on the ballast resistor, so I may solder into it. Or if 9.6 volts will run the relay - jump off the output side of the ballast resistor.

    Thanks again for the input.
