I have to re-do wiring harness on my 69 Skylark, where does the wiring for the alternator come from? Is it the firewall engine harness or the one that has the headlights? Right now all there is 1 wire from the alt. connected directly to the battery (this is how the car came). Seems to work OK, except it's obviously not correct.

I dont see how it could work without the plug since thats how the alternator gets power from the regulator via the ignition switch.Unless someone installed a 10-si 1 wire alternator. Can you post a pic of it & we can ID it.:Do No:

I think it's an internal regulator, not an external one. I have to get a new wiring harness anyway for the firewall section, does the alt. connect to that harness?

Yes the alt. wiring comes out of the main engine harness where it runs on top of the intake manifold on passenger side. There is a plug in connector and a single wire with a ring that attaches with a nut. Just make sure you have a external voltage reg tye alt. and a working voltage regulator on the fire wall.
