I saw a boattail at a used car dealership this last weekend. Its in Warrenton, Mo. Supposedly 56000 original miles, very clean car. It had wire wheels on it with a buick insignia on them. It was a 1972 non GS car. Very Very clean car but I was told these where original wheels on the car. Not seen them before so I was wondering if this was true? Also did this car come with a smog pump? This one looked like it had one but had been removed. The guy wants 12600 for the car.

Do they look like this? If so there not original. Although there was a hubcap that was optional and fairly rare that wasn't wire but looked like a wire wheel from far away.

    Wires

Wire wheels weren't available from Buick till 1978, last of the rear wheel drive Rivieras. The air pump was on Rivs for 72. It sits just above the power steering pump and there's a connection for the air hose on the driver's side of the intake manifold. Here's a pic from the dealer brochure:

Were they wire "wheels" or hubcaps??

I have wire hubcaps on my car from the factory.

if they were wire wheels, than they aren't original. If they are wire hubcaps with the tri shield then they aren't original. However if they looked like these, then they are original and RARE

BTW how come I can't get my pictures to show up as pics instead of links?

If you post one pic at a time, they will show up.

EDIT: yeah, I had forgotten the wire hubcaps were only available on LeSabre & Centurion as options.

Definitely not hupcaps and the center cap was the Riv insignia. I am going to be going by the car again on Thursday and I will take my camera with me to get some pics of the car. The guy was trying to act like he was some sort of Buick expert and I let him ramble a bit and then I busted him on a few things. I wonder about the whole story on the car anyway. The wheels I were the only thing I wasnt sure on. He didnt even know they made GS Rivs or Stage 1 boattails. New nothing about the rear diff or limited slip options. He swears the rear in this car is a posi but I didnt see a tag hanging so I dont know for sure. I will probably try to get the vin and do a little more snooping on the car if I stop again. I am not interested other than it looked like an extremely clean car if anyone is interested. Hey smartin I be up your way to head down town to see my car. The body is done and I am doing a final inspection before it comes home. I could give you a tour of the car. It will still need alot of work but the major body stuff is done.

Yes sir that is the one and since I talked to him he decided to keep it... very clean car. Of course the guy is a car dealer so I bet everything is for sale. He has a Wildcat vert too. I turned him onto this site. He seems to like Buicks.
