When I slide the wipers on... nothing happens... but if I pull the dash and the light switch grounds on the frame the wipers come on, even in the off position. Help

Oh, I also checked the fuse. Its good. I also ran a seperate wire from the ground wire to the frame and nothing. Although there were some small sparks. Guessing there is a ground issue. Anyone have thoughts?

Last night I disassembled the switch and cleaned it up and reassembled and installed. No change. I ground the light switch, sparks fly and the wipers run. Still thinking I got a bad ground somewhere....

Try running a ground directly to the wiper motor. Our Astro van had the wipers quit one day after a jump start:Do No: . Only way I could get them going was to wire a ground to the motor frame. worked that way for years. Still working as far as I know.

Steve, sounds like you got some problems there, as you already know.

Does everything else seem to be good? Where is the battery ground placed? Do you also have the small ground strap to the fender or chassis? Do you have the engine to chassis grounds in place?

Does your battery run down when your car is not running?

When you have a spark when a ground it touched, it would mean you have a draw somewhere in your system. You may have a bad switch, or something wrong with the wiper motor itself.

    Good luck.

The wiper switch is supposed to have a ground running to it.

If you have a 3 bolt mounted wiper motor..one of the attaching bolts has a brass ground strap that grounds the motor body to the attaching bolt to the body. Find it and clean it.

I found the ground on the wiper switch. It's there.

I think I found it... but there is no ground that runs to the block. I just have the three bolts that attach to the body. I tried running a ground to the block but no change. Also tried cleaning the copper. No change.

Now the wire I am using to ground is just a simple wire. Would it need to be a big ol' grounding strap?

Ground is ground but it doesn't hurt to have a braided copper ground wire from the engine to the firewall.

Okay everyone it's me again. Sorry I have not posted in a while. Life got in the way.

Anyway since I last posted... I've swapped the wiper moter and found a replacement switch on ebay. (yep, replaced both) and I still have the same problem. No wipers... If I stick a ground wire in the motor and have the switch on high... the wipers run. (sparks though) If I do just about anything else... nothing. I've tried grounding the wiper motor and I tried grounding the switch and nothing.... I am at wits end and can't get the car registered. Anyone live near Austin?

Is there something super silly that I am missing like the hood has to be down or the car running, or the wipers have to be in a certain position before they will start.

Finally... Closure. I can put this puppy to rest.

After weeks of going nuts, replacing the motor and the switch and pulling the dash apart no less than three times... I found it. Turns out it was a black ground wire within a connector that attaches between the switch and the plug going to the firewall. Seems the middle ground wire was just laying there collecting dust. After tracking down a wiring diagram and locating where it needs to go... I attached it and darn if they didn't fire right up. Praise God.

    Anyway this post is done.

Now... On to the carb/intake. I'll be posting on that shortly.
