My wipers work fine, but the squirters do not. I have not ever had a pump not work when the wiper motor works. Is there anyway to test the squirters? Also My 71 GS has that switch that will activate the wipers alone, but does have the push button squirter button that will activate the pump and the wiper. Help!

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Check at NAPA or any parts store and ask for a "windshield washer pump kit." Only a few bucks and easy to install.

I guess that I should have elaborated a little? The pump does not make a sound, I've had them make noise and not pump in the past but this one does not make a sound when you push the button. I did inquire about a kit, but it looked like a diaphragm kit only which I don't think is the issue? Should I just buy a new one, or is there a way to test for power? My guess is that if I have power the pump is gone, if I don't the switch is bad?

Power to the pump is common with power to the wiper motor. Look for yellow #18 coming into the wiper motor & then right back out to the pump motor. You will see 12V to ground here with the key in "ON" or "ACC". Ground path is on the # 18 Dk. Blue/white which goes to the switch on the dash. When the washer button is pushed, the terminal with the Dk. blue/white is grounded allowing current to flow.
This set-up on the washer is common on either hidden park or non-hidden park wipers.

Test for 12V at the pump. Test the switch by pulling the Dk. blue white off at the pump. Put a continuity meter across the wire and any grounded steel part under the hood.
Engine block is handy, just find a spot. When wash button is pushed you will see continuity to ground at the meter.
Most, if not all, test meters will have a variety of options/dial positions. One of those will show in Ohms.

Loose/disconnected wire at either end may also be an issue.

    Steve,

That was an epic, detailed troubleshooting explanation. I am saving it for future reference. :)

Keep in mind this is for the A-body cars only. The big cars have different colours doing different things.

Again thanks for the info:). Update... I did as you said to test the pump, pulled the blue and used a ohm meter which was grounded to test for life/reaction. I did seem to get a numerical "blip" every time I activated the pump button. As mentioned previously the motor works, but does look like the pump is gone. Car has a new front half wiring harness and that all looks good. Time for a pump I guess?? Anyone know where I can just buy a pump, or complete assembly at a reasonable price? Thanks

the washer pump on my '72 gs, was disconnected when I purchased the car. I never bothered to replace it. a couple years later the windshield wiper motor failed. I purchased an ac-delco rebuilt wiper motor + washer pump from a chevelle parts seller in pennsylvania. cost me $125 in 2004.

Someone here has a few NOS GM set-ups available. Check the "Parts For Sale".

I picked up the aci 172332 pump off Amazon and just swapped out the washer canisters. That worked perfectly for me.
