Well to go along with the blower motor, the wipers have a mind of there own, they will turn on but when I go to turn them off they won't turn off just cycle up about 2" and return till I shut the car off and will sometimes keep doing it when I restart.

Getting closer to being able to drive her on a regular basis!!!

    Thanks for the help!!!

This is likely an issue with the motor. If the "park" circuit does not turn the motor off, it will either not park, run all the time, or move out of park and stop. Ray

other possibilities - bad ground or the wiper motor is running too slow to engage the parking mechanism .
i had two rebuilt wiper motors ( i returned them ) that would not engage the parking mech because they ran too slow .

Mine started to do the same thing now!

Actually, a bit more complicated. WHEN IT IS RAINING, the wipers only go on "fast" speed, and the wipers won't park (they just go up and down 2").

When it stops raining, they will work slow or fast (whatever the switch position is), and they will park fine. Weird.

I figure it is something to do with the water shorting out some connection(s).

    wiper motor

if it is becomes necessary to replace the wiper motor , buy a NEW one . the re-maufacturers do not rebuild the motor assembly such that they donot verify the the rpms of the motor shaft . in order for the parking assembly to work properly , the motor has to turn at a minimum rpm . i installed two remanned wiper motors with same problem . motors ran to slow to engage the parking mechanism . cleaned up my old unit & re-installed it . all is well .

the old wiper motor never quit . i just figured that i would update it as i had to replace the washer assembly . i just did some cosmetic cleanup of the old motor & re-installed it . i replaced the old washer assembly however , with an electric motor unit . all work well . i believe that the wiper motor is the original .

Check the ground connection at the switch. It's very common for the wiper switch to break away from the plastic dash, and the ground (which goes to the light switch), gets disconnected. This will cause the wipers to do all kinds of weird things.

Thanks Larry - I checked the switch and it seems OK. The motor will not turn and gets hot. The relay inside is cracked...I think I need a new motor!

    Bill,
Sounds like you need a new one. I was going to drive my Riv to Turner Buick this morning, but I looked at the weather report, and couldn't justify the trip. It was pouring this morning here, and still is. You must be bummed.

Thanks Larry - sounds like it was a good show! Are you coming to Miller Motors in Baltimore next Sunday?

    Back on topic here...

Yesterday, I took the wiper motor out of my car to have a closer look. The plug had come very loose in the housing, and was kinda flopping around in there. It looks like the plastic around the terminals had passed its prime. I am sure that some random water was getting in there and shorting out a connection.

Anyhow, I replaced the motor with a spare one I had lying around, which had a much better plug, and now it works fine. (The motor itself was fine, just the connections were bad)
