    Hi, all:

Recently, I turned on the wipers on my '69 GS 400- they worked okay. I turned them off, then went to turn them back on and - nada. After I tried the switch a couple more times, they went halfway through their sweep and there they stopped. When I activate the switch, I can hear a clicking sound at the motor, so I suspect it's getting power - anybody else have this problem and, if so, what's the most likely suspect? They're hidden-park wipers, if it matters.

    Thanks.

    John

The first thing I'd check is to make sure you have not lost the ground to the motor. Connect a Volt/Ohm meter from the (-) post on your battery and then the other end to the body of the motor, if it reard anything over.5 - 1.0 VDC you have grounding issue. If you do have a voltage rise from these two points, I'd check to see if your motor is like the one on my '70 Electra and has a ground strap, thin copper strip from one of the mounting isolation bushings back to the motor body, if it does check to see if it's loosing connection there. Connect one end of the meter to the motor frame and the other to the body at the isolation mounting bolt. If you have a voltage rise here, you have just found the problem. I don't think mine are park and hide wipers. But they cannot be too much differant. Mine had a 12 VDC coming to the motor when the key is on, then it has two terminals that go back to the switch in the dash. These work by the dash switch providing a ground path to run on Hi/low, low has a 20 Ohm resistor in the circuit. If you find a wiring diagrak with this broken out I can figure it out for you I'm sure. Without knowing how the park and hide mode works, I'd guess you've got a bad ground, bad motor brushes, bad connection, or maybe a bad dash switch. I'd look at the ground first.

Check out this guys page, I used it to Troubleshoot my wipers. There's some diagrams about 1/2 wat down the page that are for a lter model but they werethe same for my '70 Electra. I think he used them for referance to retrofit delay wipers into an older Electra. It'll give you an idea of the wiring. Keep in mind they work by giving the motor a GROUND through the wiper switch, NOT 12 VDC coming from the switch.
