how diffuclt is it to install a new windshield because the glass place whant $100 for install and thats a little steep in my eyes
If you can tie your shoes, you can do a window installation...not difficult. Go to Autozone and get the 3/8" butyl tape...runs about $10-12. You will need a cold knife and an assistant to do the job.....to remove and replace the glass....should not take more than 30 mins. http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/glassremove.htm Clean the channel of old butyl tape with a 1" wide putty knife...then wipe residue with lacquer thinner. Lay new butyl tape about 1/4" from inside edge of channel....this will allow the butyl tape to flatten and not hang over the edge so it is visible inside the car.......have an assistant grab one side and then lay the windshield on lower rests......gently move glass towards frame and set in place.......gently go around the entire perimeter and press down to seat the glass to the butyl tape.....install stainless trim and you are done.
It's not that hard to do but well worth $100 bucks. I have to ask, what did you think it should cost????
Might be a good idea to take it out yourself to inspect for problems such as rust that will need to be fixed first. Another bonus is maybe they'll give you a discount on the install price if you take it out! There is a special primer that is used before the butyl tape goes down, just so you know....
maybe i will just take it ouyt and have them install it. the window it self is 120.00 and the total bill is 235.00 not a bad price just seems steep for labor nut i guess not
