Has anyone replaced the windshield on their 70-72 GS lately? I noticed mine was cracked today so will be calling the glass shop. No big deal as it has to come out anyway. I will tell them to just leave it on the bench. Just wondering if there is a good replacement available. This last one was an LOF which I asked for but the thing was made in Ole Mexico. Antenna in windshield and tint looked right however. I noticed last PPG replacement I saw had antenna wires too close together and tint stripe at top was huge. Any thoughts?

Hope you don't need one for convertible! price jumped up about $200 more. Coupe was only abot $150 dollars.
LOF plant was about 30 miles from me was sold to Pilkington (spell?) a few years ago. Local joke was it stood for Locklears, Oxendines, and Friends; had to be one of those 2 families or GOOD friends to get a job there.

Steve, don't feel too bad. Their jobs have gone to Mexico. We get glass free her in Mass on our insurance if it breaks. Just call the glass company. You do not even have to call insurance co. I just am not sure what I am going to get. I would almost rather buy a good used one.

Just under $275 installed last Spring. Tinted glass, shade band at the top & antenna for the radio. Looks fine to me........don't know how correct/non-correct would differ.
    Glass by CRINAMEX.

    Dave,

I bought a date coded windshield for my 70 convertible from Pilkington here in Columbus, OH. I picked it up myself at the plant/distribution center in March/April of 2007 for approximately $200. My body man/restorer installed it. It is tinted with the built in antenna. I have a contact name & phone # at Pilkington in the folder for the convertible, if you are interested.

Larry, that would be great thanks. The only thing I wonder does it say Pilkington on it? Not sure date code would be correct on it as I don't thing Pilk. is that old?

I had a friend of mine get me a PPG for me wholesale- 89.00. The materials arent that much if you wanted to do it yourself. What helps is a 16-1 caulking gun. Also make sure you get the black windshield primer.

What I did notice on the new shields was that the antenna wires were copper colored, not black. They sort of cought the light and were really noticeable.

Ok here is some more info. I went to the Pilkington site and like Larry said they will date code glass for you and even put the LOF logos on it for you. Now I hope my insurance company will buy this one. Yeh thats the ticket. it is a special order and it has to come right from the factory. Think they will buy it? anyone want the Pilkington toll free here it is. 800-848-1351

I called the Pilkington number today and a real person answered the phone right away as "Pilkington Classics" The guy actually knew his stuff. What a surprise. Windshield for 70-72 2 dr coupe with LOF marking is $185. Shipped to Mass business is $100 more. About $50 more if you want date code. Not too bad. The new windshields are actually Pilkington with the old LOF logo which Pilkington bought the LOF company. Only downside he said windshields are made in Mexacalli Mexico. Seems to be a good company to deal with however. Now If If I can get my insurance to cover it.

    Well Dave, you've been busy.

I dug out the invoice this afternoon and the total with the date code info was $210.00 As you stated they will date code your windshiel to match the original for $50. The part # for a convertible is DW00752 GBN( Tinted w/ radio antenna wire). I went out to the garage and checked my antenna wire after Jason's post and sure enough, it is copper but I had never noticed it before now. I took a picture of the date code portion of the windshield which is attached here. The pic is not real clear but you can see the it has the LOF stamp on it. By the way, the person I talked to was Sean in Classics @ 614-491-0278. Super nice guy to deal with.

Looks good Larry. They even did it backwards like original. Never figured why they did that?
