i was checking speaker wires under the dash when i noticed an ant. wire, it looks like it goes to the windshield, wire in windshield is in the center, i also have an electric ant in fender, did they come with both antennas, if so, why
is there someone that rebuilds the dash clock or is there an aftermarket one thats available

i thought that 1972 was the last year for the in-windshield antenna.

When I replaced the front glass in my 68 I was told that glass was unavaiable and that I had to use a 69 glass. Only diff being was that 69 had the ant in the windshield. I dont have the wire in my car for it. I think for athstecis I'd rather use that over the power mast. As for your clock this is the company that did mine. looks and works great. hasnt lost a second of time since I got it back. http://www.clocksandgauges.com/index.html

The 74 clock is way different than the years prior, but a 71/73 clock (with hands) will also work in a 74 Riviera.

usually if you have a windshield antenna and a fender antenna (either power or just fixed), the car may have had the fender one added after purchase.
a factory installed fender antenna should have a windshield without. of course a replacement windshield with antenna could have been installed at some time if the glass salesman didnt have the non antenna one in stock.

as for clocks, there were rolling digit, traditional hands, or clock delete available to fill that hole for most of the big cars but i think i have read in some GM lit that the rolling digit was standard on the riv.

BTW, i have a 74 NOS rolling digit in the original box. pretty darn hard to find.

since the ant. in fender has a burned up motor, i think i will hook up the windshield ant and see how it works
then i will address the clock and rear speaker issues
have just one rear speaker on passengar side , wired up in trunk but no sound
front passenger speaker was disconected and hooked up to something that was bolted to floor, maybe an 8 track,
oh well, 2 more weeks to go then off this boat to home

I have added a mast antenna, cause the windshield ant worked lousy. Didn't help that it is so close to the
rear HEI on my Olds. The motorized antennas are just one more thing guaranteed break. I use fixed one
with a big spring at the bottom, goes OK through the car wash a hundred times. Bruce Roe

if u have a choice between an in-windshield antenna and either a fender antenna, go fender. reception will be a lot stronger/better.
