I am installing a oil pan baffle similar to the one amp sells. It will sit in the rear of the pan to help during acceleration. Do you use this in conjunction with the stock windage try or can i leave it out and just use this baffle? The problem with using both is that i would have to seat the baffle so far down to clear the windage tray. thanks trevor
Hi folks, Gee, I used both. Haven't started it yet but it appears I have no clearance issue. AMP installed (welded) the baffle into my pan, which I sent them. Don't know why you had interference?? o No: --Ranger Aiken, SC
well i started by pouring 4 quarts of water into the pan( 6 qt pan, figured that would be whats left after the engine took oil in circulation), from the top of the pan flange to the water level was 4 inches. The oil pan gasket surface on the block to the bottom of the windage tray was 4 inches. which means if i was to use both id have to seat the baffle at least lower than 4 inches down wich means the baffle would be submerged in oil kinda defeats its purpose. I installed the baffle at 3.5 inches, just enough to clear the rod at its lowest (stroke) point, should be effective at preventing windage and should keep the oil down where it belongs under acceleration. May be overkill but it should work fine nonetheless. I have all winter to finish just a few things on this bad boy so i get to take my time, my labor is free so overkill is fine with me. Btw I think i will use the stock windage tray over the un baffled portion of the pan, towards the front of the sump area. I cut it down to fit forward of the weld in baffle
