Will a 1965 skylark GS radiator cool a 455? Or should I just get an aluminum 1" 2-row radiator? Any info. would be great.
    Thanks,
    Philip

Needs a 4 core to be safe. Use it along with a good fan clutch, a 7 bladed fan and surround. There is a NAPA clutch that is liked . I think it is for a truck. Look in the archieves.

Do you where to get a radiator? If the 455 has A/C shouldn't it already have a 7 blade fan?
    Thanks,
    Philip

There was a guy on ebay selling alluminum radiators relatively cheap. People on this board had gotten them and were happy with them.

I personally got a 4 row hi efficiency radiator. It's the width of the standard 3 core, but with 4 rows of 15 fins per inch instead of the standard 12. I also have a 7 blade fan with clutch fan that cuts out at about 3500 rpm. So it's frees up the HP during quarter mile runs. My temp gauge has never gone above the second little hash mark on the factory gauge. Just my .02.

Any parts store will be able to sell you a 4 core radiator...

7 blade fans aren't entirely necessary, but they help. A 5 blade clutch fan will do the job.

I have a brand new 4 core radiator, 180* t-stat, and a 5 blade clutch fan ,and my temps never exceed 180*.

theres a place called radiator.com. you talk to the guys online and then you give them a call and they find out which radiator suites your car best. i think a 4-core for my 70 GS was $130 or somethign like that. and it was only $10 shipping. it fits nice and it was a great deal. check them out.

  7. Theres one obvious problem. a 65 skylark GS radiator has wrong inlets and outlets for a 300-455 engine. the top outlet is on passenger side and the bottom is on drivers side. also the tranny cooler lines are on drivers side. Order a repro 67 GS400 radiator for cars with a/c and you will be set. Bob

How hot does it get in MO? I've been fighting high engine temps for years with my 350, but then it does hit 90+ on a regular basis around here...

Right now, for some reason, it's like 85-87 everyday. That's a tad warmer than it usually is this time of year. But in the summer, it gets extremely hot and humid

95* on a regular basis, a few 100+ days in the mix too. And 100% humidity make it all-the-more unbearable. It gets pretty bad working outside.

Thanks for all the info guys. On OPGI's website they list the radiator being the same for a 340 and a 400, is there a difference between the 300 and 340 radiators? Will a radiator from a 70 wildcat fit in a 65 skylark? Anybody know the measurements of the 65 radiator?
    Thanks,
    Philip

  11. a 65 radiator is narrower than a later 68-72 radiator. if you have the parts store look up a 67 GS400 radiator then that will be the size you need. i have both a 65 GS and a 67 GS radiator i can shoot pics of tomorrow and post them so you can see the difference. you could do what i did and take your core radiator and have it recored with more rows. Ok, please do that. A 67 rad will cool a 455 right?
    Thanks,

I bought my new 4 core from Ebay for $125+shipping. Great quality and much cheaper than the local shops. I also looked at the Ebay auctions for alumin. radiators. Great deals considering most shops aske me over $400 for one and had to order it also. You may need to do a little work on the top cover or rubber to make these fit just right. But, is easy work and saves a buck or 2. Like Smartin, my car never goes over 180 deg.
